    Hi

Has anyone tried the sainsbury's value version of the blender?

I noticed one yesterday in my sains, and it was £8.99 or £9.99 (I don't remember which!)

Since my ex-dh got custody of the old one it seems like an attractive option!!

But has anyone out there tried it? Or do MR T or anyone esle do an equivalent which someone has tried?

It's just that the soup season is nearly upon us!!!

i bought a hand mixer (the type with 2 beaters) frm argos for less than a 5er las yr and it does the job brilliantly!! y bother usin a balloon whisk?? an electric beater does the job a hell of a lot faster!!! give it a whirl (excuse the pun)

I tried the value casserole pork and it was good. I did cook it for ages though, but it was really tender, had a nice flavour and texture, not very fatty (I would not order it online though, go to the store to choose it to get the nicest looking pack - some packs I couldn't actualy see any pork in them!)

Thinking of trying value frozen mince next...

I have MrT value stick blender that serves its purpose. I have to try to remember to cover the pan/dish with another plate first , or be very clever & put cling film on then make a hole for the blender....or you end up wearing an interesting hair conditioning treatment by the time you've whizzed the grub:rotfl:Think it was less than a fiver tho, about this time last year.

Hmmm tried this - engine wasn't powerful enough for me, but does the job.
At this price you can use it for a year and if it breaks chuck:cool:

If you shop in sainsburys and they don't have value porridge (I don't think they do) pick up the scottish porridge oats in the 1.5kg bag it works out 5.7p per 100g compared to the value brands which are all 1kg bags and work out at 5.9p per 100g

I don't bother with value beans as I can get branston on offer which my husband loves for 25p a tin where as value is 20p a tin. I personally can take the hit of 20p per 4 tins.

Somerfield have branston beans on offer at the moment at £1 for 4 tins in shrunk wrapped package and sainsburys have them on offer at 2 X 4 packs for £2 so same difference.

    Yours

Not a 'Value' item, but a supermarket own brand. Tesco's Butterpak spreadable butter is fab! This is coming from a Lurpak snob:o I bought the country life spreadable when it was on offer and it was ok. The Butterpak is great though, and is currently on offer at £1 for 500g. I'll definately be stocking up.

  • Avoid the Tesco Value toaster! The slots are too small for most slices of bread (so you have a slice of toast with bread down one side! Or have to buy specific loaves of bread.) and the elements only get hot in the middle, so you can end up with burnt patches very easily.

However I do like Tesco Value Lemon Curd, it goes a little bit runny but the texture when it is spread on toast is lovely and the taste is nice and strong.

I always buy value/smart price toothpaste. It's just toothpaste like when we were kids before they added a bunch of glitter and stripes to it. It has flouride. It cleans your teeth. What more do you want?

I notice that many people here say the tea bags are garbage. I bought the Asda Smart Price tea bags and my husband and I honestly can't tell the difference. Yesterday, I actually did a side-by-side taste test of smart price versus Asda "Gold", which purports to be extra special stuff. Could not tell the difference. Either the "Gold" is just pricier crap, the Smart Price is as good as any other tea, or my Yankee taste buds aren't up to the task of discerning good tea. However, my husband is English and he can't tell the difference, either.

I think I've mentioned before that the Smart Price tortilla chips are a good buy. They're perfect for making nachos (which I make with refried beans, cheese, salsa, and sour cream.) By the way: if you buy salsa at Asda, do not buy the salsa in the Mexican food section. Don't even buy the Asda salsa on that shelf. Buy the Asda brand salsa sold next to the crisps in the snack food aisle. It's significantly cheaper and just as good.

well I'm usually a smart price a holic but the other day I decided to give Mr. T's a try and give their value stuff a whizz, have tried a few things before but not really the bulk of my weekly/fortnightly shop. Was pleasantly surprised to be honest with you, my shopping was delivered today...a sea of red and blue pmsl. I'm really impressed with the stuff that was delivered.

Washing powder seems a lot better than the smartprice version, smells nicer and got the stains out of my little girls vests and tshirts (v messy eater) lol

Bought the all purpose liquid cleaner (which cleans in my opinion just as well as flash etc) blue block things for the toilet and have even ventured into the toiletries, will try them out later.

Have done a main shop for two weeks for two adults, one child and my dog, including toiletries, cleaning products etc and total came in at £71 including delivery. Had already bulk bought my cat food so didn't need to buy that and I've got a good store cupboard with all the other basics (herbs, spices etc) so can makes lots of diff meals and will need to buy milk and bread as and when I need to but I'm really impressed. :D

Will deffo be converting from asda to tesco.

One thing I was impressed with was the minced turkey( not value)...currently on offer 2 packs for £3, 500g in each pack. Works out loads cheaper than the minced beef - which has gone up loads lately. have split it into four bags and frozen it. Used mince turkey the other week instead of beef in spag bol and my OH preferred it so.... quids in wahay!!!
