I always use the Value Lasagne sheets which are a third cheaper than most others. Tinned sweetcorn at 19p is good value. OH doesnt like the Value tinned plum toms we have been getting recently as the toms have been quite hard-so buy others when on offer. Bleach is good value too.

Not sure if I've already posted this one but ...........
Asda SP Spreadable (gorgeous replacement for spreadable Lurpak etc.)
SP Full Fat Soft Cheese (mmmmm with celery!)
SP Skimmed Long Life Milk (if you don't mind the 'longlife' taste)
SP lightly salted Tortilla Chips (especially if to be used with salsa dip)
SP salted peanuts
SP Flour (I always sift my flour anyway!)
SP Cornflour
SP Vegetable Stock Cubes (not tried any other SP cubes yet)
SP Baked Beans (don't like sweet, thick tomato sauce)
SP Beans and Sausage
SP Spaghetti in tomato sauce
SP dips (the four in a pack for buffet tables)
SP mint sauce (rolled back to 9p the week before Christmas!)
SP Cranberry sauce (34p)
SP Dried Mixed Herbs (29p)
SP Crunchy Peanut Butter (43p)
SP runny Honey - delicious!
SP Strawberry Jam (fine for grandkids on toast - but wouldn't use in cakes)
SP Lemon Curd (as above)
SP Orange Marmalade (not my favourite - but perfectly acceptable)
SP Toilet Cleaner (I decant into bottles with bendy necks for easier use)
SP All Purpose Liquid Cleaner
SP Cream Cleanser
I don't like the SP squashes but I think the ASDA own brand reduced sugar squashes are great - Orange/Pineapple; Apple/Blackcurrant; Lemon/Lime.
ASDA own brand Dandelion and Burdock; Traditional Lemonade; Lager Shandy are all great too (3 x 2 litre bottles for £1)0 -
although im no longer a student im still on a tight budget until my new job starts at the end of the month. iv bought a lot of budget brands (or BOBs as us marketing graduates call them). i tend to shop in sainsburys tesco or asda (normally when i go to c my dad as the nearest store to him is asda) and i hav found the following items to b especially good:
sainsburys basics:
tinned tomatoes/kidney beans
fresh pizza (the large one)
frozen pizza
sliced bread
apples
peppers
chicken breasts
swing bin liners
rubber gloves
scrubby sponges
dusters
fabric softener
eggs
corned beef
sliced ham
pasta shapes
frozen broccoli/cauliflower(smartprice only)
sliced carrots (smartprice only)
stockcubes
jaffacakes
choc digestives
apple/blackcurrent squash (smartprice only)
beef fryin steak
breakfast juice(value and basics)
red wine
cola/lemonade
cat litter
food bags
tin foil
in general the value and smartprice versions of these items tend to b good too. i dont care how chicken is produced and the only difference tends to b the sizes of the portions. the fabric softener is excellent from all 3 places at 33-40p for 2 litres(!)and the rubber gloves in sainsburys r fab. stockcubes tend to b little salty but overall good. jaffa cakes r same as branded ones. the beef steak was absoulutly gorgeous and cooked in a couple of mins. at a pinch i wud also recommend the basics white wine mixed with a splash of lemonade. i always try to go for the own-label or BOB wen im shopping but there is one item i will not skimp on: purina ONE cat biscuits (for my moggy)
one question i do have for all u bargain hunters: does anyone know if the sainsburys basics shampoo and conditioner is any good? i hav short fine curly/wavy hair and my current shampoo/conditioner doesnt appear to b working all tht well.0 -
I Bought Tesco value polish today for the first time, its very good and dirt cheap too, it has a nice smell.
If you enjoy Red Wine (like me) Tesco do a South African Red for £2.84 a bottle, I decanted it the other night and the friends we had overr brought a £9.99 bottle with them, they said my wine tasted better. It was certainly better on the pocket...£9.99 on a bottle..madness."Wisdom doesn't automatically come with old age. Nothing does, except wrinkles. It's true, some wines improve with age. But only if the grapes were good in the first place." — Abigail Van Buren0 -
tesco do a drinkable red or white wine for 2.10 and a lovley french red wine for 2.40 :beer:0

tesco value chocolate biscuits are great .. cheap and taste as nice as any others. value tinned tomatoes - whats different to any other brand. value orange juice- unless like the other week a branded one was on offer half price working out at few pence less. value carrots - what i cant use i prepare and freeze- nicer than frozen veg. bananas, i get through loads (they are just bannanas - will make cake if they dont get eaten-not often. i always check the veg usually odd shapes and sizes of seasonal veg is at low prices as it is the wrong size or shape - i am going to chop it into oblivion what does it matter. value saltanas (if you can get them) are such good value they are often sold out when i want to make a cake.
i also use the scrubby sponge things - prefer them to there more expensive counterparts, toilet roll - i only use it to wipe my bum, why pay more and black tights for work (1.50 for 5 pairs - last ages as a wee bit thicker than more expensive tights) kitchen roll.
there must be others - i cant think at the mo!!Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0 -

I have bought the Tesco value Peanuts before, good value, although they are slightly harder than the KP ones."Wisdom doesn't automatically come with old age. Nothing does, except wrinkles. Asda's Smart Price Bourbons @ 15 pence a packet. They are additive free and are really chocolately.Yum!0

I've not read the whole thread, but Tesco Value Tortilla chips are the only ones I like. I can't stand Doritos.
Morissons to a value "instant whip" type dessert (chocolate or strawberry) for 3p a packet and my kids love it. They also do a jar of curry sauce that is about 6p and the kids love it because it tastes like chip shop curry sauce.
At Forest School we make the children hot chocolate when they are out and we have used Sainsburys, Tesco and Morissons value. I think Morissons is the nicest, Sainsburys one taste a bit malty (like horlicks) and the tesco one is 'ok'.
I've found value washing up liquid, tea bags, frozen mince, bin bags & cereals are all useless.:T*Thanks to all who posts comps * :j0
