Has anyone tried the Value Sweet n Sour tin? I'm thinking of doing sweet n sour pork - already have the meat and rice so this would be cheap as chips!

    Thanks

    Catt xx

I had this in the cupboard for ages, used it one day for the kids (needed to do something in a hurry so did it with chicken and noodles) and they loved it...I tried it and thought it was fine...I would say definitely worth a go..

Hi I regularly buy (all Tescos)

Value basmati rice (If cooked well is as nice as the more expensive stuff, but takes a bit more effort I think)

    Tinned tomatoes
Tinned baked beans (do have more sauce but we like that)
Value meat on occasion - have had chicken and pork strips, and very occasionally if they look nice, lamb chops - all taste as good as more expensive if you ask me
    Value Bacon
Value Eggs - will look into changing these though after the above posts.
    Value toilet roll
    Value kitchen roll

Thats all I can think of at the moment.
Oh my youngest far and away prefers value bread but I won't buy it now.

Toilet cleaner and loo roll. Toilet cleaner is toilet cleaner. We need to use flimsy loo roll in our 2nd floor bathroom, it's kinder to the macerator and it works better. Am working the odd roll into the rest of the house as well! I figure I might change to the flimsy stuff completely if there is no comment!

I find Sainsburys cheapie toilet roll (£1.12 for 12 rolls or something like that) better than Tescos cheapier - but it might just be my imagination.... It's still soft but thinner.
  • sainsburys basics tinned peaches - 18p a tine (normal tin is 45p) they are cut into small slices so not peach halves but are just as tasty.

I bought the Sainsbury's Basics yoghurt and we can 't tell the difference between that and the Sainsbury's Organic version.. SO is £1.09 and the Basics brand is 39p

Phew that is good news :D Up until recently I did buy the cheep eggs too as I wasn't really thinking about it. Then I read a leaflet from Compassion in World farming and it made me think again.

The eggs from battery hens might not taste any different , I guess some people would notice, some would not, but the hens live in horrendous conditions. No light, no room to move, some die from infections in their feet as they have been standing on the same wire for months at a time. It would be like living in a coffin. Permanantly. Even if not for thae taste, do it for the chickens, please ;)

At the moment we buy value eggs. We get through about 25 eggs a week in my house and I was under the impression that unless you buy free range, organic or barn the value ones come from hens that are kept no differently to the 'normal' range. Can anyone confirm if this is the case? Because I do feel bad about the conditions they are kept in (however we're living cheaply currently so we can move to a house with enough land for half a dozen ex-battery hens and a couple of ducks so hopefully we'll only have about another 6 months of eating value eggs lol).

Anyway, value things i find ok:
    Value tinned potatoes
    Tinned tomatoes
    Bananas
    Kitchen roll
    Bleach
    Cheese
    Flour & cornflour
  • I regularly buy Tesco Value peanuts (21p) and Tesco Value tortilla chips (24p) and only lightly salted too. These are both considerably cheaper than buying branded versions.
    Carpe diem
  • Just remembered one thing not to buy: Tesco Value swing bin liners. As you might imagine, they are very thin and split almost as soon as you attach them to the bin. I shall stick to the ordinary Tesco swing bin liners in future (once I've finished the massive roll of Value ones!).

I actually like Tesco value squash, especially the lemon one. And it's only about 15p!
    April Grocery Challenge: £80/£64.39
    March No Spend Days: 15/7
  • Tesco Value stock cubes, all varieties - Chicken, beef and vegetable.

    Really nice and very cheap.
My eyes! The goggles do nothing!
