I tend not to buy value meat though, its normally full of water and tastes awful - I'd rather make something veggie which tastes better.

One of the few Smart Price items I won't buy is Smart Price beef mince.

I always rinse mince before cooking and drain off excess oil after dry-frying with onions, but the Smart Price mince seems to be impregnated with fat.

I once made a bolognese sauce with it and afterwards I felt like I'd eaten a tub of Vaseline. It also coated my lips like orange lip-gloss!!! It's got that strange "black pudding" smell too. Ugh!
  • The value bolognese sauce from either Tesco, Sainsbury's or Asda at around 27p is delicious. I put some cooked pasta , a couple of spoonfuls of the bolognese sause and some grated cheese in a tupperware (that's an old fashioned name isn't it?) and warm it up at work for lunch. It is delish

I really like tesco value corned beef slices. :) Tastes fine to me and no different from the deli stuff.

  • Asda smartpice curry sauce - currently being cleared at 6p a jar.

It's fine! Quite mild but good to add stuff to tart it up a bit. I checked the ingredients and they are all pretty 'normal', tomatoes, spices, garlic etc, couldn't see any nasties in it.

I can also give a thumbs up to the Smartprice Fruit and Fibre.

  • Breakfast juice from Tesco value and value squeezy honey is lovely.

Not a fan of the beans or the sausages.
    £4000 challenge

    Currently leftover - £3872.15
  • I also use value sandwich bags and wrapping foil.

Do the job fine and are quite good enough for something that will be thrown away at the end of the day.

  • Tesco value chicken breasts are fine too, but not always cheaper! I always check the price per kilo on the other packs as sometimes the value packs are more expensive!speechless-smiley-040.gif

  • Had a tin of asda irish stew for lunch today and it was really nice best out of all the value brands.
Wasn't very happy on Saturday evening though as brought a pack of smart price rolls from asda earlier on that day as intended doing cheeseburgers for tea and was very dissapointed to find they had that day's date on them and had mould on about 4 out of the 12 rolls and funny enough this same thing happened to me about a year ago,We don't shop at asda that often as we don't have one in our town so not impressed that this has happened on two of the few times we have shopped there! Just sent a complaint via e mail so will wait and see.

Tesco Value 'jar' honey (as opposed to 'squeezy') is great. Have bought some value coleslaw for DS's school lunches this week but have yet to get a verdict from him. I'll report in when I know more.

I'm delighted that Tesco have introduced value unsalted butter to my local store - fab for baking.

  • Just bought a jar of Smart Price Lemon Curd. It was only 37p and quite a large jar. It's probably packed with additives but I only have a thin smidge on wholemeal toast every now and again, so I doubt it'll kill me. It's very, very nice.
