I use the Tesco Value wash powder and it seems to clean as well as other brands in my opinion. I have 2 young Children (2 and 4 years) who obviously make a mess  and the powder cleans their clothes no problem.

  • Likewise with the Tesco value laundry liquid and fabric conditioner - both great (though I have a bit of a guilty conscience about switching from Ecover).
    Have I said something useful?

Today I bought Boots own value version of Lemsip for my daughter which was 89p and does exactly the same job as a £2.99 pack of Lemsips.

All the aspirin/paracetamol/extra power painkillers seem to have the same ingredients. I've never paid more for brand names.

  • Paracetamol from Netto are 16p for 16, they work just as well as any brand name and they're not those yukky round ones that always get stuck in my throat!

Those ones never work on me though and they are no good for a child who can't swallow them.

Tried value gravy granules today. They are 39p and the next choice up is 89p so it's quite a big saving. They were OK but not as nice as the next ones up IMO.

I agree with Black Saturn, they're not bad, especially for the money. Although a dark gravy they do equally well with chicken, pork, sausages etc.- the reason I bought them was because unlike branded and many own brand gravy granules, the Tesco Value version contains none of the dreaded hydrogenated fats :j

I've just got into experimenting with Tesco Value stuff (my OH hates it, mainly as a concept) - I do an internet shop so there is no 'shame' factor - its usually so cheap I buy the value version as an extra for comparison purposes...

I'm sure there have been improvements e.g. Tesco value toilet paper is 10p a roll and much better than it was when I was a student!

    My best tips:

Tesco finest Gin, (£6.73) with some low calorie, Tesco tonic water (four for £1) and some value lemons (I know they're cheap) - for a great G&T.

Tinned tomotoes, kidney beans, Roast and ground coffee (this is not far off Starbuck house blend).

    Low sugar lemonade is ok.

A lot of the cleaning products are worth experimenting with, big savings there.

Toilet roll, the kitchen towel is pretty good, iceberg lettuce, mushrooms, peppers, carrots - most of the veg is good.

I guess the only stuff I won't try is the fresh meat...
