Hey! I find cola too syrupy as well - I've tended to go for the diet version because of this - I remember cola from years ago that just used to be nasty! Rola Cola or something if I remember correctly..

I will give the own brand cola a try me thinks! Thanks! :)

Mayonnaise. I am a bit of a foodie, but for some reason find cheapest low fat mayonnaise as good as any other ready-made. Home-made is another story.....
Butter: unless I am eating plain bread & butter, I can't tell the difference (and even if I am, don't think it's worth it). If I want to impress guests by putting butter on eg: potatoes, I chop home-grown herbs into it.
Olive oil: I only buy extra-virgin for occasional use when its taste is noticeable. The cheaper "light" olive oil is perfectly good for all other "olive oil" uses, including home-made mayonnaise.
    Oats: I especially reckon Co-op
Milk: all the same unless you are buying speciality

I personally use cheap market dishcloths instead of washing-up sponges, they last & last.
I can't use most shampoo or body wash, and reckon my cheap bar of soap is probably cheaper than your Tesco baby shampoo, but I think it would make a perfectly good body wash if you like it.
If it does, try steeping home grown lavender in it, strain into clear plastic bottles, and you have a nice gift!

I'm very tempted to try Tesco Value Baby Shampoo as a body wash as it's 9p for 500ml...wonder whether it would do the job or not though??

Your thoughts on any products would be appreciated. :)

    Hi

Tesco value baby bath is lovely as a body wash and doesn't leave my skin feeling too dry.:)

Bought some Tesco value shower gel but use it as a hand wash. It has a strange jelly like consistency.

Thanks GetReal..the baby shampoo is going on my shopping list then!!

On another thread in here someone mentioned that they had accidentally dropped some Tesco value shower gel in their bath and ended up using it to clean the bath..it did a great job apparently!

I agree on mayo - I find Hellman's too gloopy!

    Just thought of another one.
I replaced my toilet seat last week - bought a very nice one - which didn't fit - so took it back and exchanged it for the Argos Value White Toilet Seat at £4.99.
It is a bit plasticky and very lightweight but it looks fine..if any visitor has an issue with it I'll ban 'em from my bathroom! Haha!

    Noted!! :0) Cheers!

I'm so excited I'm going to have to get myself off to Tescos today..instead of Monday..

I also found this site for bottles to decant into:

The expensive bit is labels - which I don't need as it's only for me..and no minimum order on there either.
  • Hi Jariya

There's a thread in the food shopping section called something like "what are the best/worst basics/value".

If you have difficulty finding it, you could search under the OP, Trindadone.

You might find it useful to check it out. People have recommended Tesco/Sainsburys/Asda products and also said which ones would be best avoided. There's a whole list of things to try.

Places like Poundland/Boots/Poundstretcher etc not covered. I tried both Tesco and Asda value toilet roll but didn't like either. I buy from either Poundland or Boots which both sell toilet roll 4 for £1 (usually get it in Boots to get points).

    Hope this helps.:)

    I use:

Tesco Value kitchen roll, OJ, squash for the kids, bottled water, yogurt (like the petit filous), 3 pack small trifle, cheese, sausage rolls, fruit & veg when packaged, chicken fillets, eggs, tinned tomatoes, tinned peaches, pasta, short grain rice for rice pudding,

ASDA Smart Price tomato soup, sausage rolls (nicer than Tescos V brand), yogurts, cheese, meat, tinned toms & peaches............depends where I shop I tend to buy value for the above.

    HOME BARGAINS for toilet rolls.
  • We've recently made a lot of swaps to save money. A fortnightly shop for us used to cost about £80 - £90 in Tesco. On changing to Asda, doing it online (less temptation to buy rubbish!) and swapping to a lot of Asda basics, we've brought our fortnightly shop down to £50, for all the same things and the same number of products. We do still buy nice coffee, toilet roll, baked beans, bread and cheese, but most tinned food including tuna and tomatoes, pasta sauce, orange juice, squash and frozen food has swapped to either Asda Smartprice or Asda's own brand if there's no Smartprice product.
    Original debts: £14,250
Still to pay: £250 /£950 - Lloyds TSB overdraft (although with interest and charges, I've already paid £1,675!)

    VSP#150 - £68.25
