If that's the Tesco ones you mean I think they are fine. They are 18g a packet (nearly half a 'standard' packet - I remember when a standard packet was 25g though!) so are ideal for a packed lunch. My DH is always complaining when I buy the value crisps, but at 71p for 12 packs it's much cheaper than the next one up which is £3.40ish for 20 x 25g. He's going to have to lump it :rotfl:
Yes the tesco value ones... they were 68p for 12 on my receipt today though! I honestly can't tell the difference between them and walkers.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

By the way, I hope no one minds if I ask this question here - what does "whoopsied" mean? I keep seeing it in threads - is it reduced price items?I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

It's the things that are reduced to try and get rid of them because they're going to go out of the use by date soon, e.g. the date is the next day. The shop can't sell them past the date but most of it can be frozen or even will keep a bit longer than the date says if you don't want to use it straight away, so lots of people here like to try and see what they can snap up at bargain price, especially if it's something they'd want anyway.
I think the whoopsie name came about because Asda's reduced stuff is marked by a yellow sticker that says "Whoops!"0 -

I finally found some of the Texco Value Baby Bath Foam 9p.
I've now tried noth the baby shampoo and baby bath foam and they're ok on my skin..but as a shower gel I just don't like the smell as they smell clinical to me.
I will use them as handwash though as they are fine for that.
I had a look in Waitrose yesterday at their range and found a bath foam in lemon and amber which smells lovely and is £!.27 for 750ml so I think I'll try that for shower gel.
It's still a big saving on the habit of buying Soap and Glory for £7.99 which I had to into this year!
I ordered some PET bottles from here: http://www.naturallythinking.com/categories/Bottles-%26-Jars/Plastic-Bottles/?gclid=CJaVi-Po3aoCFQoe4QodE1xY8g
I got the blue ones to match my bathroom and I think they're lovely so will decant into these.
I got some Tesco Value Tomato Ketchup for 22p yesterday too - struggled to keep my paws out of teh bottle last night as it's nicer than Heinz!0 -
Tried a value caramel wafer (5 for 40p) today. They give a slight sense of staleness but are perfectly edible. I wouldn't bother buying them again though. The value milk chocolate sandwich bars (6 in pack, can't remember how much they were, sorry) are very nice and I will buy again.
I tried a tin of value mushy peas and was amazed - they are really nice and only 17p a tin. Bye bye batchelors!I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

Oooh - great thread!
I've been trying all the Value alternatives recently in a bid to control our spiralling groceries bill - and most of them are absolutely fine.
Some of the ones we've tried are:
Value "weetabix" - I think they have a strange texture but the DDs don't seem to have noticed, and they are mainly for them anyway
Value porridge oats - exactly the same as normal oats
Value fruit and veg - all absolutely fine and exactly the same as higher priced alternatives
Value toilet cleaner (toilet duck type) - it's pine flavour which I don't much care for but it is 27p a bottle so much much cheaper than even the Tesco standard own brand, so I'll keep buying it
Value handwash - lovely, smells nice and does the job
Flour (plain and SR) - been using these for years and they are both great!
Tomato soup - can't tell the difference from the one I'd normally buy
Kidney beans/tinned tomatoes - been using these for years and nobody has ever noticed
Tortilla chips - I have been buying these for a while as one of my friends is vegan and they are suitable for her - I know they are a "safe" option to offer her when she comes over! They are very nice too and only 50p for a really big bag.
Yogurts - 29p for 4! Three of the flavours are lovely but the peach melba one tastes very strange. That said I am still buying them because they are so cheap!
Pasta quills - these have gone up from 19p to 41p in the space of a week! But they are still cheaper than standard own brand pasta and the family haven't noticed a thing.
Basmati rice - I've been buying this for a while and it's great.
Chocolate digestive bars - £1.08 for 18 - DH takes these for his packed lunches and there have been no complaints
Instant custard - exactly the same as "normal" instant custard and really creamy if you add a splash of milk to the mix. And it's only 6p!
Since we've "downshifted" the groceries my weekly bill has pretty much halved :money:and the family haven't really noticed - in fact they have only noticed when they are given something in the blue stripy packaging. Anything I've cooked with blue stripy ingredients has gone completely undetected. :rotfl:

i think the value wheatabix is too tightly packed so they can make it smaller but the same amount as normal wheatabix iykwim i think tahts why it's an odd texture it's still tastes fine tho we've been using them for ages
i recently tried the fresh value pizza we added extra chesse and fresh ground pepper and hubby said it tasted like the pizza shop so a huge sucesswe also had value garlic bread with it which was very nice (not a patch on pizzahuts but alot cheaper
)

I'm picky about tea, I tried asda smartprice and tesco value and didn't like either, however sainsbury's basics are a-ok!
I like value and economy biscuits because in a lot of them, they helpfully tend to cheap-out on ingredients and therefore instead of using dairy produce, they opt for vegetable oils instead. woohoo!
Downshifted the child's addiction to baked beans with sausages in; she's not noticed and I save 20p per tin.
instead of mr muscle kitchen which I have used for years, I got a bottle of sainsbury's basics all purpose cleaner. I shoved a screw on spray top. twice as big for about 1/4 the price and it does the job lovely! also great in the bathroom too.
I don't like value tinned toms, too much juice, not enough flesh for me; but I do like the ex-aldi-now-sold-in-tesco budget brands; sort of a step between tesco standard and tesco value.
the family didn't like the texture of value pasta penne when I made a bolognese, but didn't notice when it was smashed into bits and put in a fridge-clearout-minestrone soup.
I love value weetabix if they're the ones more like Sunnybisk than weetabix... less minced, more flaked if that makes sense.
readybrek! omg the difference in price between tesco own brand and the named brand is amazing and nobody has noticed the switch! hell, why would they? it's just milled oats and extra vitamin powder isn't it?
soya milk... don't like tesco value, don't like asda, don't like sainsury's but do like aldi's. we dont have it all the time, only when lactofree isn't on offer and we've run our massive longlife stockpile down.
value dark chocolate, asda smartprice... kind of "christmas chocolate" after taste, but perfectly good for my needs: dairy free BROWNIES
husband has tesco value shampoo for work, uses it as body wash too and loved it once it's on a sponge. it's a bit too jellified when it's not and tends to come out a little quick.
asda smartprice washing powder is FRICKING AMAZING. been using that for 4 or 5 years now, switched from Arial and never looked back. I am allergic to a lot of washing powders so finding a budget one I can use is amazing. can't use sainsbury's. tesco's is ok too.
I also use my washing powder instead of shake and vac. no strong smells, but I like that. I don't want my home to smell of chemicals!
thanks for the tip about tortilla chips Evie, we're a mostly dairy free family (damned lactose intollerance; husband and I quite severe, daughter minor so she can cope with a little per day) and finding crisp type snacks we can all eat is a nightmare!
noticed recently that asda have started putting lactose into their tomato ketchup, but tesco's is still ok. I buy economy to make sweet and sour with and the not quite economy for dipping. I buy economy brown sauce for dipping as it's only me that eats it and I like it.
family and myself did not like economy mayonnaise, BUT it wasn't wasted. It ended up being used as an el-cheapo combination nit treatment and extreme conditioner0 -
Last week I bought a 4 pack of Asda Creme Caramel at 74p..today I picked up the value one by accident at 50p odd.
I just scoffed one of the value ones & it tastes BETTER than the more expensive one! For one the sauce is thicker & more caramelly than the more expensive one & the solid bit is more vanillary...
Makes you wonder tho doesn't it....If the more expensive is better tasting than the value..certainly not in this case...0
