A$da's own weet bisks thingies are not the same as weetabix. You know how the weetabix soak up milk...well the own brand things just sat like bricks in the middle of an island of milk. They may be similar, but something is not quite the same...

It depends on the product and personal taste.

For example, cream crackers. ASDA = 300g = 36p. Jacobs = 300g = 97p. They are just as crispy and taste the same. No brainer.

I'm an Aldi shopper and find most of their products just as good (if not better) than the branded. I can get almost everything I need or want and only need to do a small top-up Tresco shop about once every two/three months and only spend about £25 - mainly on things like oxo cubes and those items Aldi just doesnt stock.

for the poster above - if you have an Aldis, then their Harvest Morn Wheat Bisks DO soak up the milk and are every bit as good as Weetabix. same with the Rice krispies.
  • We get loads of value/basic brand foods.
I'm quite happy with most of it, having been a real brand snob in my younger days.
Biscuits, pasta, UHT milk for work, fruit juice, fruit and veg. etc etc etc

I actually only buy value biscuits now.Why pay over a quid for a pack of digestives when I can get a pack of Asda smart price for 29p..they taste the same to me!Mind you I did find Sainsbury's Basics Chicken Stock Cubes extremly salty!

Aldi's version of shredded wheat is just like the real thing, well we can't tell the difference anyway. Only £1.19 a box as well :D

Most of what I buy is own brand/value etc as prefer a lot of it to branded stuff. I only tend to buy branded things when they're on offer.

I had a funny conversation with a couple of my colleagues today. I popped to Lidl on my lunch break and came back with my shopping and they took the p as are adamant that all Lidl stuff is horrible. When I questioned what they had tried I was given examples of apple juice (fair enough) and ready meals which not being funny, are generally rubbish from anywhere! That's all they could say though.

Ah well, I will enjoy my bargains :)

The only thing I have found that does make a difference is Corn Flakes. I haven't noticed the difference on any of the others, so now everything I buy is own brand. I was really chuffed when I discovered that Morrisons do their own version of Bahlsen Leibniz :T :T

I try the value version of everything but some just aren't worth it. Tea bags and margarine have been the biggest failures for me. Biscuits are the biggest hit - OH insists that a$da smartprice biscuits are by far the best on sale anywhere. Took a while to get used to value baked beans but now I find heinz's are too sweet!

Some value brands are the same, some are different but better, some are different and worse. Its just a matter of taste.
