I had bought some wee individual pots of Del Monte pineapple from AP, which was very cheap and very delicious. The kids loved it and hoovered it up in no time.
I bought some tins of Sains value pineapple chunks in juice, filled up the empty pots and gave them to the kids who couldn't tell any difference. I wanted some too as it looked and smelt yummy, but even my tongue bleeds if I eat pineapple! Gross!
Asda now do smart price crisps multipacks in S&V, C&O, RS, and they are full of flavour! 12 packs for 48p or so. That's great value. And the kids eat less crisps. They are allowed one pack, and because they are half the size of a normal pack, they eat less without realising it.
Love the SP midget gems which are just like the ones from my childhood. Including the really strong black ones, which I have had great fun trying on the kids and watching their faces as they run to spit it in the bin :rotfl::rotfl:and dark choc 100g for 30p.
On the other hand, the value midget gems from tesco are pale, soft uninteresting things. Not worth the money compared to asda.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D

just like to say tesco value marmalade has the same fruit content (20g per 100g) as their standard marmalade and the same as duerrs, robertsons golden shred and roses marmalade!Wins: 2008: £606.10 2009: £806.24 2010: £713.47 2011: 328.320

We buy about eight bottles a week, it's about all we drink. At sixteen pence for two litres, it's cheaper than buy fizzy orange, blackcurrant etc. You could also add SodaStream concetrate to it as well. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

Tesco value and Asda smart price soya milk have more protein than Sainsburys basic/own brand. Taste nicer as well.:)Sealed Pot Challenge No 089-Finally got a signature.:rotfl::j0 -
I was sent some Sainsbury's vouchers recently for £12 off wys £60 so have been online shopping there for the last few weeks. :money:
I have to say I really am impressed with their basics range and IMO it's better than other supermarket basic/value range. I don't think we've tried anything that we don't like enough not to buy again and others I would much rather buy instead of own brands/brand names.
Basics products we've sampled include:
loo roll (packs of 4) & (pack of 6 x 400 sheet rolls - double rolls??)
white chocolate 100g
milk chocolate 100g
salted butter snacks (pack of 12, onion rings, S&V sticks, cheesy puffs)
crisps (pack of 12 S&V, C&O, RS)
tinned pineapple pieces in juice
baked beans
baked beans with sausage (lot of juice in these but taste lovely)
spaghetti (tinned & dried)
vegetable soup (thinner than others & but acceptable for the money as opposed to 80 odd pence per tin for Heinz!)
mozzarella balls
pizza bases
cat litter (much better than Sains own brand which is over 2 quid dearer)
mild cheddar
eggs (pack of 18)
yoghurts (dd likes these cos there are no lumps of fruit in them)
fromage frais
salad leaves
bananas
casserole veg ( handy for a quick veggie pasta bake)
value ham (not as nice as others but with salad leaves etc makes a nice butty)
chunky chicken tikka
chicken breast slices
smoked back bacon (nice slices not all bits and pieces)
tuna chunks
chocolate digestives
potatoes (the bag i had was full of tiny potatoes which was a pain for peeling but they made gorgeous mash!)
all purpose cloths (jcloths)
washing up scouring sponges
pine toilet cleaner
uht skimmed milk
vinegar
tinned custard (gorgeous)
tinned rice pudding
tinned sponge puddings (again gorgeous)
double strength apple and blackcurrant squash
rose wine (there are brands I prefer but this is an ok substitute)
hope that helps x0 -
I have just discovered something yummy in Lidl. Shortbread rounds (McAllister) for 69p for 160g. They are really crisp and delicious. I used to buy the Asda extra special at over £ but these are soooo much nicer. For a yummy pudding or posh cofee with the girlies I melt some chocolate (I like Asda white) and top it with half a strawberry so the berry sticks to the setting chocolate. It looks impressive taste greats and if you eat enough you can belive it's one of your five a day!!:)0

which in the basic/value/smart price are all equal from what I know (although I don't buy from Tesco and as Asda don't state what type of vitamin D they use I won't buy their soya milk).
I think 7.3g of protein per 250ml isn't that low as the average adult should be aiming to consume around 45g of protein per day. For some reason most people think they need much more than that. Yes some will as it is to do with height/weight/age but it is a good average.I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0 -
Tescos value baby bath. Surprisngly good. I tend to go for own brand rather the value, as tends to be nicer. I use value kidney beans sometimes.0

sainsburys Basic museli is 67p a kilo and I mix it with a crushed up weetabix or some bran flakes .I met a lady a couple of weeks ago in sainsbobs and she was buying 4 bags of the stuff so i asked her if it was any good and she said it was a lot better tasing than the expensive stuff so I thought I'd give it a try and she was right its really good and at that price well worth it.Itransfer it all to a lack'n'lock box and it keeps beautifully (there are a few nuts in there for those that can't take nuts it wouldn't be any good ) but I am very pleased with it.The lady I met says she always buys 4 bags at a time as they are always running out at the store, as its so popular ,apparently 'Which' gave it as a 'best buy'What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0
