Tesco peanut butter! I was really surprised, too. Almost no real difference between that and Sunpat.

Don't like their cornflakes though, or rubber gloves (barely last a week), or crackers ... very cheap, but fall apart in my hand before I get any cheese on them.

I found a big difference. Tesco Value Peanut Butter has only eighty-four per cent peanuts in it, whereas Sunpat has ninety-five per cent.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

Tesco Value Bran Flakes are 78p for 750 grms, a lot cheaper than the well known brand. They taste just as good, I have them for brekkie most days.

Value yoghurts are horrible though, no taste.

Sainsburys peanut butter, Sainsbury's baked beans (in fact DS prefers the value stuff). Sainsburys cornflakes.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Hello, first post, hope it's of use to someone!

Tesco Value gingerbut biscuits are quite tasty :) The value prawns are also fine, think they are just a bit smaller in size than own brand! Value onions and peppers are great too.

Have tried both value and own brand cottage cheese; thought the own brand tastes better, value a bit watery and tasteless.

Would be careful of how many preservatives etc are in value things though, I'm sure the value kidney beans have added firming agent compared to own brand which doesn't!

Out of interest, has anyone tried both YSL Touche Eclat pen and the Lacura (from Aldi) concealer pen, and can say whether the Lacura one is just as good or not?

  • Tesco's own peanut butter (better than sunpat in my opinion), and Tesco's sweet & sour sauce.

My husband was the biggest food snob when we moved in together (which was a bit rich considering his diet was very limited!) Over the years I have managed to get him to change his ways with a lot of products, so now we buy value:

    Tinned potatoes
    Tinned tomatoes
    Sandwich bags
Yoghurts (strangely enough fusspot DH prefers them as 'they're not lumpy like the expensive ones')
    Kidney beans
    Pasta
    Tinned fruit
    Vinegar
    Kitchen roll

I'm sure there's others but that's what we have in our cupboards at present.

Similarly though, there are some products he simply will not compromise on, those being:

Cereal - must be Kelloggs or Weetabix
Gravy granules - must be Bisto (but shhhhh don't tell him sometimes I buy value and put it in the Bisto tub)
Tea-bags - must be PG Tips
Bread- must be the toastie bread, think it's Warburtons?

And I've also found that it often pays to buy branded products when they're on offer, so I wait until they're cheap and then stock up:

Washing powder - We only use Bold as DH has terrible eczema and I know this product doesn't aggravate it - too scared to try anything else!
Washing up liquid - Tends to last far longer as we use less so always pick up fairy
Domestos bleach - This is a new one, tried some when it was last on offer and found it to be far superior than the own brand stuff we'd previously bought.

Iceland sells 4 toilet rolls for £1. They are Petal Soft in white or a honey sort of colour. They are our faves as they feel really luxurious and work out really good value compared to most of the luxury loo rolls. Give them a try.
