:) Tesco Basics Cream Cleanser (32p) is just as good as Cif. And a woman of my acquaintance who has to produce baked goods for coffee mornings at her church sneakily buys Tesco Value scones (10 for 34p), decants them into a tin and passes them off as home-made. No one had rumbled her yet. I've eaten them and they're fine.

:) Once spent several minutes in a supermarket aisle reading the backs of various packets of pasta; checking the nutritional values. My conclusion was that there was absolutely no difference between the cheapest and the dearest ranges, bar the fact that the dearest had the colours of the Italian flag and an Italian-y product name. I can live without these things. I decant my pasta into a fetching glass jar so no one will know which brand it was anyway.

:) In an earlier life, I packed bacon for a Very Famous BrandName, who also supplied own-brand products to supermarkets high and low. The product was the same in most cases, all that changed was the "top web" (the printed heavy duty polythene on a roll which was heat sealed to the bottom web once the rashers were in their wells).
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Tescos Value porridge oats are fab in muesli and twinks hobnobs. In the winter though, they tend to be out of stock most of the time, but they always have loads of full priced!. So, in the summer I tend to stock up - we can't live without hobnobs!

Own brand tea bags, I think it depends how strong you like your tea. I like weak tea and find cheap tea is fine for me, Sainsbury's own brand is nice. Found this out when my Aunt used to buy it for her dog, who apparently enjoyed a cup of tea! I made myself a cup of the dog's tea and preferred it to the branded tea.

I know this is probably on here somewhere but I have just discovered mr m's value dips (the 4 pack of mixed fresh dips)nomnomnomnom!!! I think they are 78p and I love them ,they are not horrible vinegary slime like the old one they used to do ....so I highly recommend them! As a comparison I usually buy the pack from sainsbugs at around £2 and they are just as good.

  • I posted somewhere (it may have been this thread) that I was using Tesco's Value conditioner to nit comb my daughters hair. Thankfully nits are now gone and I was left with the remains of the conditioner. Rather than waste it I tried it myself and to my surprise I have found it is really good on my hair and far better than the thicker more expensive ones I have been using.

I have now bought another one and am going to try the shampoo as well.

Tesco value baby bath 11p for 500ml. Its brilliant, really gentle, and cleans hair. Saves me spending £10 on Oilatum junior. An absolute bargain.
