I tricked my OH the other night, made him HM Toad in the Hole (Thanks to OrkneyStar for the recipe) with basics sausages. :rotfl:
He's normally really fussy, but he said 'Mmm...Sausages taste nice, where did you get them?' I told him, he was suprised, and has finally agreed to change a lot of our foodstuffs on the shopping list to basics, meaning that it'll be a lot cheaper for us! :j

Not managed to read all 52 pages yet so sorry if this has already been posted:
Sainsbury's Basic orange juice (55p - 6p per 100ml) tastes the same as the more expensive from concentrate orange juices (Sainsbury's own 10p per 100ml). I think it tastes just as good as normal orange juice but i know some people only drink not from concentrate
(I know it's not Tesco... but just in case...)0 -

My Asda usually has SP butter - but not always. I think it's quite popular and sells out quickly.
The Asda Spreadable is very nice (aobut 84p per tub) - good alternative to the majority of 'soft butters'.0 -
Smartprice biccies are all good, I am sure there is only one company in the world that makes custard creams as they all look, taste the same! Smartpriced tinned veg are also good, but I avoid the beans as the sauce is very runny. A lot of the asda own sweets are good too ( and are actually made by haribo!!) Smartprice cereals I avoid as they do actually taste cheap and nasty. Fresh fruit and veg are good for own brand as I see it as a banana is a banana whether it is smartprice for del monte!
But I do draw the line at tiolet paper, it actually works out cheaper buying decent paper than the cheap stuff.0 -
Lavatory paper is the one thing that I buy the cheapest kind of. I can't understand why some people pay good money for embossed or scented when it's something you hold in your hand for a full five seconds or less.
Lidl's Special Muesli is one of the best I've ever tried and it's very inexpensive: £1.69. It was on offer recently for £1 so I bought enough to survive a siege0 -
Tesco value frozen stir fry veg, can't remember the price off the top of my head, either 79p or 99p for a huge pack. Think this is a new value item. Made a sweet and sour the other night and threw a couple of handfuls of this in to "bulk" it out, was very nice indeed. : ) Have still got 3/4 of a bag leftMarriages are made in heaven, but then again so is thunder and lightning!!!.....getting divorced lol :j
