Using up breakfast cereal

Hi Jacand,
My DD turns her nose up at the cereals you mentioned, but give her the box and let her eat them dry straight from the box and they disappear like magic...0 -
Hey guys
Just a quick question to my oh-so-knowledgable friends on the old style board... my mum kindly got us some Banana Puffs (The ones that are like sugar puffs but all... banana-y!).
They're tasty but I didn't eat much of them initially and when I went back to them a few days ago they're less than crispnot so good...
So... In the spirit of frugalness, I can't just abandon them. I considered mixing with some choc to make crispy cakes, but i think the chewyness might betray them a little... however, mallow ones (a bit like rice crispie squares) could work?
My questions are:
1. do you think that idea will work? if not, any other suggestions? :T
2. whats the best way to melt marshmallows?
cheers guys!On the up

Why not just spread the cereal on a baking sheet and put it in a very low oven for a few minutes? That should crisp it up again. Be careful not to over bake it though, it may still be soft while warm, so let it cool before deciding if it needs longer!
Otherwise, to melt marshmallows for crispy treats, bung them in a big pot with a knob of butter/marg and stir lots with a wooden spoon over a low heat until melted. Then stir in as much of your cereal as you can until it doesn't coat it any more, and quickly transfer to a lightly greased baking tin or disposable foil container. Work fast here to stop the marshmallow setting up again! After half an hour or so you can cut it into slices and enjoy!Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0 -
I was about to suggest the same as babyshoes. I often use the oven whilst it is cooling down for this, saves turning it on specially.
Good luck

This morning I opened by accident another huge box of Rice Krispies. I had opened one just a couple of days ago  to make Rice Krispie cakes. We made loads of cakes on Monday to use up some of the easter eggs. Now what do I do???? I have searched for a savoury recipe but can't find any. Can someone please help otherwise I will have to throw out a box as no matter how much we like them we can't eat this many as cereal or chocolate cakes!!0

Can't you store them in an air-tight container until you need them?0

In order to avoid chucking out good food, if I didn't have an airtight container or one of those bag-clip thingys, I'd reseal the packet inside the box with some sellotape.0

Give it to a friend/neighbour. We used to do a lots of swaps in our old house with neighbours, e.g. if melons were on buy one get one free, I'd hand one over to a neighbour. Then if they bought too much of something, or too many apples on their tree, things came back.
Even if you don't get anything back, it's far better than binning it.0 -

would you believe I gave away all my large plastic cereal dispensers to a charity shop a couple of months ago as I never used them! I suppose I could use one of my large tupperware boxes, but only if I empty them first..... they are both in the fridge at the moment0
