    ok, I called them again :)

    I want to upgrade my package so called to ask if they could match the Sky offer of all tv channels except sports & movies, broadband & free evening & weekend calls. They customer services woman said she couldn't but put me through to retentions.

    The woman in retentions gave me 4mb (L) broadband, free evening & weekend calls (L phone) & XL tv for £35 per month. I had to commit to 12 months for that.

    She told me 4mb broadband is being upgraded to 10mb once the 20mb upgrades are complete so soon I will be getting 10mb broadband :)

    If you are happy to pay around the £35/month price mark for the 3 services then ask them to match the Sky offer & you should get close, or even better if you are a longtime customer, to this deal.

    I called them this morning as my 6 month retention deal is coming to an end which they offered after Sky & they wouldn't offer me anything, just said I can go back to my original package minus Sky or I can cancel :(

    Did you go through to retentions, or was this just the normal customer services?

    First I went through to retentions & the guy said he wouldn't deal with me, I have to be transferred through to them. So then I was on hold for awhile & got put through to normal customer relations. The woman said she couldn't give me the Sky match & she put me through to retentions. So I was on hold again & then I got through to retentions & the girl spent awhile trying to convince me that Sky up to 8mb will be slower than the current 2mb I was on. I kept going on about the Sky deal & eventually she put me on hold then came back with L phone, XL tv & L broadband for £35/month with a 12 month committment.

    I spent about 40 minutes in total on the phone & 10 minutes of that was talking to them so it seems they are quite busy, or understaffed, at the moment.

    I first called up to question the increased charges on my bill, which I found was due to my previous offer rate coming to an end (I'd managed to get them to extend my 12 months offer for another 12 months), they wouldn't give me that offer again, so I asked to be put through to retentions, but got cut off in the transfer.

    I just called back and pressed to numbers to say I want to leave them and got put through that way, only had a couple of minutes wait at most.

    They couldn't offer the same deal I had been on the last 2 years, but I told them what I could get elsewhere, they gave me the £35 / month offer.

    Currently £33.45 per month.

    I forgot about caller display as I don't pay for that with my VoIP service (all the features are part of VoIP so no charges), so called them back and got them to give me Caller Display for free as well as the L (4Mbit) BB, L Phone (Eve & W/E and Line Rental) and XL TV.

    Only took a few minutes for it all to be done, though I had to wait a week for the phone to be installed (Installed free) and have an extension socket installed (also free).

    I happy with the price considering it should be over £62, though I would never dream of spending that much, I'd rather go without than waste that much money, even £35 was pushing it, wouldn't pay more than that, would rather pay less.

    The full VIP package
    tv = XL + sports & movies
    bb = XL (10mb)
    phone = XL (24/7 + talk international + talk mobile)
    V+ box & one extra V box
    All for £80 a month
    then I get £15 off goodwill gesture
    £10 per month off for writing to them using the template from watchdog re: being charged extra for not using direct debit.
    so overall £25 reduction
    so £55 per month- use SAYNOTO0870 to get alternative numbers so very rarely have any phone calls listed. if I call mobiles I get a discount but mainly use my free minutes with vodafone to ring other mobiles.

    Constantly the staff in the Virgin Media newsgroups state there are no plans to upgrade 4Mbt and 2mbit services and staff on the phones have been 're-trained' not to pass on this misinformation.

    Having said that maybe they will change their minds.
