    Explain.

Same point I made above. No one seems to be able to me tell how the current Windows Phones are now obsolete.

Its obselete due to all current devices are running an orphaned operating system. There is no incentive to buy any current windows phone anymore. Theres also no incentive to write apps for it for the same reasons, despite what you think.

The update for existing customers will only bring the new start menu.

Eventually owners won't be able to update their favourite apps as developers move away from it.

    It's called the Osbourne effect.

You need to understand that Android phones are not everything. People like to use other phones as well.

Why not answer my question about Android update?

You need to understand that you speak rubbish all the time.

What question would you like me to answer moron? Is your massive rant about me being an android fanboy and your usual !!!! about malware a question? Or a statement?

Ask something worth my time to answer and I might answer it.

Sorry, but it's no more obsolete than my Desire which is working fine.

The desire is not a new phone and can be upgraded if you wished.

That doesn't make it obsolete does it? If it was Windows Mobile, I could understand your argument. It's not like all development of apps has stopped is it?

Why do you need an incentive to buy a phone? Surely your concern should be that the phone does what you want it do. What incentives are there to buy other non Windows Phones?

There is, money. No other incentive is needed.

That's because the other stuff WP8 brings needs better hardware than there is in the current Windows Phones. The new start screen is the first thing you interact with and it will improve the user experience so I imagine most people will be quite happy to get it.
Eventually owners won't be able to update their favourite apps as developers move away from it.
By that time, you would think that most people (who want one) would have a WP8 device, so it doesn't really matter. Most people don't keep a device longer than two years.

Why would you not want incentives to buy a phone? When I buy a an expensive smartphone on a two year contract I want to know that I will get updates, upgrades etc, etc. To me my smartphone is not a throw away item.

How are they to make money on a shrinking/non-existent user base.

Answer me this. I'm looking for a new phone as I am now out of contract. I decide I want a windows phone. What incentive do I have to buy a current windows phone knowing in 6 months or so I can't upgrade to the newer software? Whats going to make me buy a current windows phone now instead of waiting?

The incentive I need to buy a phone is that it does what I want it to do at a price I'm happy to pay, simple as that. If everyone had the same expectations as you, Android would never have taken off. Most of them are still on 2.3 are they not? You surely can't consider that to be acceptable if you value updates as much as it seems you do. To quote gsmarena (http://www.gsmarena.com/android_40_user_base_increases_to_109_percent-news-4469.php):
Secondly, and this is worse, a staggering 64 percent of Android users are still stuck on Gingerbread, which is 19 months old. And even worse, 17.3 percent of Android users are on Froyo, which was released 26 months ago. And then there are some who are still on Eclair, which was released some time during the Stone Age.

What this tells us is that if you're waiting to get Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on your non-Nexus devices, you are going to have to wait for a long, long time.

They won't, but by the time WP7.5/7.8 has shrunk to that level the majority of people will be on WP8 so the money will still be coming in.

Depends on your point of view. If you like the interface and the design of a phone then you'll buy it and what upgrades you might get aren't going to bother you. If all you're interested in is having the latest, you'll either wait for WP8 if you really want a Windows Phone or buy something else.
Whats going to make me buy a current windows phone when I can just wait and be better off.
As I've said above, the UI of Windows Phone will be what sells it rather than what updates it might get.

Better off in what sense? WP7.8 will bring the start screen, which is what most people will care about so visually at least, it will be identical to WP8. The under-the-hood benefits you get from WP8 won't be appreciated by the majority of people so I doubt they will be feeling as though they're worse off.

Personally I prefer the Nokia Lumia but only if it is the Lumia 800 you're considering. Reasons I chose are:

Live Tiles... You can get info to your main screen without loading the apps up. You can use widgets on the S III but you can't fot as many on screen.

Size... The SIII is huge. Big can be good for some uses but consider where you're storing your phone.

Apps... The Lumia doesn't have as many apps but there are a few great ones that look better on Windows Phone than iOS or Android purely down to the metro interface it uses.

Price... Windows Phones are the underdog at the moment so the price is much better... Much better.

The SIII has its good points though... It has more apps available through it, it has a better selection of google services and a processor designed to suit future software but my loyalty still lies with the Lumia :)
