I read the sample chapter on Amazon and I thought it was utter drivel. If people think this is great literature then they obviously don't read very much.

Perhaps you should give it a bit more of a chance..... You never know, you might find your inner goddess and make yourself a little less uptight.

I am for my book group - its dreadful - just appalling, so badly written - it reads like the love stories I wrote about running away with george Michael when I was 11.

Get yourself some Anais Nin if you want some proper erotic fiction
People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

I've not read them yet and not sure i will as tbh, i think they are designed to get housewives hot under the collar, and all the people that seemed so shocked by the sexual and erotic content must be leading very sheltered lives! Saying that i think the underlying story may be of interest and probably the best bit, but as for the fact it is meant to be really shocking, i think it would be quite tame for me:p:o!

Also i am sick of hearing about it over facebook, and yet again most of the people that are raving about are the ones i would class as being a lil bit on naive side.

Hmm, just had a look at the sample chapter/pages on Amazon. Most books written in the present tense irritate me, so that's a negative for a kick-off. The girl seems irritating, the writing style is intensely irritating, maybe I'm just too irritable:p

Having said that I WILL read it, but only when it turns up in my local charity shop (5 paperbacks for a £1!!) :)
  • I got a few "you what" comments when discussing them with a friend, I told her that I didnt think they were 'that' kinky, which to be fair they're not and I havent read any of the other books suggested on here in place of them-its just not what i'd have called 'kinky fcukery' as they describe it in the book.

It was also very much Twilight with sex, Christian is just a grown up Edward (even the hair colours the same!!!) but obviously not a vampire, he's devastatingly handsome, rich and has a dark secret. Ana is soooo Bella, clumsy, niave, unconfident and full of self doubt and constantly questioning if shes good enough for him. The only thing missing was a Jacob for me lol-I always prefer the underdog (jacob/damon).

im gonna be trawling amazon for some of these recommendations on this thread now!! :D

For what its worth I found the 50 series to be an easy read, but very badly written. I'd have liked to have ripped her 'inner goddess' out and beaten her to a pulp by the end it was so damned repetitive.

I'm yet to find anything in this genre well written, but most are a lot better than 50.

As I said earlier Olivia Cunnings 'sinners' is a good series, the women in it are a lot stronger than Anastasia's character. Be warned though these are pure filth with a threesome before page 30 lmao The series is based around a rock band and each book is about a member of the band. There are 2 at present, 'Backstage Pass' and 'Rock Hard'.
Also try Sylvia Day's 'Bared to You'. Its a lot like 50 in the 'girl meets millionaire' sense, but again the lead character is a woman who you do actually like.

I'm about to start one called 'The Marriage Bargain' by Jennifer Probst which is yet another 'girl meets millionaire' type book but it does have incredibly good reviews.

I finished book one of Maya Banks 'Sweet Series' last night. It was ok, it was explicit but not enough to forego the storyline. I will get around to the others.

If you like your books a bit less explicit then Lara Adrian's Midnight breed vampires are amazing books. Lots of falling in love and sex but not as graphic. Also JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood follows the same sort of theme, just not as good as Adrians.

Sorry this went on a bit!!

Incidentally, Alexander Skarsgard has been heavily linked to play the part of Christian...

He is how I imagined Christian in the books so he'd work for me, but then again Mr Skarsgard has done it for me for many years ;)

One of the reviews I read before I started them was 'should come bundled with a free vibrator'. I was gobsmacked with them  So gobsmacked I read em both in 2 days.

Bit gutted I've got to wait for book 3 now :p

Oh, and '50 SHEDS of grey' made my day :D Hilarious!
