    read all 3

the sex scenes get very repetitive and boring by the end. i skipped past them in the 3rd book.

if they had left out half the sex scenes, you would get a very thin book. i read it on my kindle app on my phone so have no idea how many pages are in the paper book.

the 1st book finished and i was...is that it?? lol

am very glad i did not spend any money on it.

I've not read them, and don't intend to. But I don't think they are the types of books that warranted a proper ending/twist in the tale.

I think they are pretty much like P0rn films 'Didn't rate the plot' - eh...what plot?
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

I am halfway through the second book after hearing everyone raving about it on fb and on tv. I figured it would be best to read it in order to have an opinion since it's being discussed so much.

I have to be honest - I don't see what all the fuss is about. If someone posted on here saying her partner was keeping tabs on her, isn't happy about her talking to other men and likes hitting her then there would be a domestic abuse outcry.

I find the writing a little childish - thankfully the amount of 'Oh my' and 'holy cr**' has toned down a bit in the second book.

And what's with all the lip biting? It says she 'smiled and bit her lip'...how does that even work? Can't have been much of a smile lol. :rotfl:

I am continuing to read this and will go on to read the third one - partly to see if my opinion of Mr Grey changes and also to find out what the excuse is for his behaviour.

My husband saw an article on yahoo and asked if I had read the book.....I said yeah, but don't get excited, it's not as heavy on the S&M as its made out to be :rotfl:

Read all three. It's a bit... meh.

It's a really basic premise, naive girl meets 'broken' man, she fixes him (over the course of three books), has mental angsting and some fairly repetitive s3x.

There is some description of BDSM. There is very little activity which relates to it (a bit of spanking), so I don't get why it's so 'kinky'. Other adult books have s3x scenes; better written and more pertinent. Otherwise, if that's what you're after, buy erotic fiction. It's more inventive.

I've only started the third one, that was before all the hype. I got to about 100 pages and through it away thought it was absolute rubbish. The sex scenes are uninventive, the characters full of themselves, and I wanted to slap her with her over-analysis of every single little sign of his behaviour.

I really really don't get what would make anyone turned on or interested by such boring reading. Saying that, maybe getting straight onto book 3 didn't help!

I find the sex scenes VERY repetitive, seriously how many times can you read "come for me ana" without thinking blah blah blah!!!!

I'm on the third book and skipping the sex scenes now. So dull and repetetive "he cups her sex" who says that? It's big cheese but the first book was good.

I like the author, I saw her on an American inteview and she was about as British as it gets, very humble and unassuming. I would love to go for coffee with her and grill her on everything about writing it because I'm sure she has lots of secrets to tell.

The apartment exists, it's for sale in Seattle, Red room not included.

  • Aww, it always makes me smile to see 50 shades of grey for sale as a proper book. The first time I saw it was in its' original form as Twilight fanfiction. Now there's even fanfiction of 50 shades of grey, if that's not proof the internet is eating itself then I don't know what is! Not that that means it's bad or anything. From what I've seen it's certainly a better read than Twilight, even if it's sadly lacking the supernatural element... although personally I've seen toilet walls that were a better read than Twilight. But we can't all like everything I guess. Anyway, I'm waiting for it to hit oxfam before I give it a go.
In a similar sort of style I'd recommend the Merry Gentry series by Laurell K Hamilton - it's enjoyable, trashy fantasy with faeries and magic and lots of not-terribly written smut/outright !!!!!! - plus the main character does not angst, which is a nice change.
