She might just be out getting her hair done.

So do I;) but I have, on occasion, been lured down south!! They can have all the disclaimer notices they like, they aren't legally enforceable and a duty of care still exists.

i would have thought someone with as many posts as yourself would think about what you post before you post it

its been said many salons have notices up advising that chemicals are being used and to come in old clothing if you are having your hair done to look like a witch

the salon also offered a very reasonable £100 for what is probably a copy bought on the banks of venice waiting for their boat from very nice men with big big smiles:D

oh and this is a moneysaving forum we dont do £695 baggies or rattling watches

    message ends............

I would have though twice about taking an expensive bag to the hairdressers- epecially if I am having my hair dyed.
I usually wear an old dark T shirt and old shoes, I think it's not unreasonable that dye can splash when having a colour done. Even with care and attention dye does drip and splash, however careful the stylist is. If the OP left her bag lying on the floor then it's in part her fault.

You do not need a solicitor to claim against the Salon's Insurance and they won't try and recover their costs should you lose. A claim of this size will be dealt with by the Insurers own claims handlers.

The chances are the salon will have an excess of circa £150 to £250, as others have mentioned, you will not be entitled to the new price of the hand bag (Assuming it cannot be cleaned). They would settle for the value of the bag taking into account it's second hand and two years old.

The chances are that if you start a claim against them, they will realise that they have to pay the excess and will have a claim registered against them which will affect their future premiums so will probably settle with you privately.

In addition there is a chance the self employed hair dresser is not covered by the Insurance which increases the chances of a private settlement.

Send the salon a "Letter before action" stating in a concise form what happened, why they are liable and your proposal for settlement. State they have fourteen days to reply otherwise you will proceed to county court.

As others have mentioned, you probably have free legal advice via a phone call on your home insurance, look in your policy booklet

I did think, in fact I asked one of my sons who is a Lawyer and that is the advice he gave. So, it seems my contribution is very much more credible than yours.;)

Who are you to say the OP bought a fake? Who are you to say that any other poster should not spend their own hard earned cash as they see fit?

Regardless of what notices they display they still have a legal duty of care, your disparaging that does not change the situation.

i refer you to post 5
its the one after 4 and the one before 6

by the way ive had it confirmed that OP would have been advised hair colour change can be messy and any one with common sense would be aware of this anyway (not my words im the oracle in this bit)
