I'm not sure why this has so many thanks. Ops on a money saving forum after having had her property damaged by a salon worker and the advise is for op to pay for the repair by means of insurance excess ad loss of NCD.0 -
Wow, so many mean spirited replies to the OP! Whatever happened to 'be nice to all moneysavers'?
Hope you get a positive outcome, I would be very annoyed if my hairdresser wrecked my bag!
And to the person who said a £600-700 would now be worth £100 at most :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I have several expensive bags and could easily sell them for very close to what I paid for them. In fact I did so just recently and got over 85% of my original purchase price back on a 5 year old bag, granted it was in good condition as I take care of my stuff but it can easily be done. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -

Hi! To be fair i had thought that myself, i know personally Paul Smith re sale is a pretty good return simply because the swirl especially is very sought after bag.
and Arcon05 (i think thats correct) i havent got home insurance, i am back at my parents at the minute as i am moving to Northern ireland so my policy was cancelled. Typical i suppose! And thanks for your very good advice.
I will keep you all posted on it!
i have asked them for her insurance details 3 times now so i can contact them directly and each time has been ignored! i have asked again today as the lady doesnt answer her mobile and hasnt text back. but she has replied to other things, but when i ask for insurance info i get ignored!
Oh the joys!

Good luck to you OP. I hope you get it sorted and they have to cough up. You have been very poorly treated by the hairdresser, the salon, and some people on here.
Please let us know how you get on.0 -

Send them a letter before action giving them chance to settle before you take them to court. They will pass it on to their Insurers and they will then contact you.0

Why don't you just take them to court for it?
You don't need a solicitor.
You don't have to faff about with anyone's insurance company (that's their job).
Just fill the form out online.
They have already admitted ruining the bag. Just find a replacement price and sue them for it."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -

It does not sit well with a court if a claimant does not give the other side a chance to respond before taking court action. This needs to be in the form of a letter clearly setting out what action you consider appropriate and within what timescale.0 -
Mazziem - First of all, great name btw
I hope you didn't take offence at anything I said. Good luck to you getting some sort of compensation for your bag.
It could just be me, I worked in a salon for a few years when I was at school. Ouch that hurt to remember how long ago it was :rotfl:And seen the damage that most of the chemicals could do, that's why I would never take or wear such an expensive item to a salon. Obviously the stylist should have taken more care. I certainly didn't mean to offend, and if I have I apologise.
Please don't feel the need to explain yourself in the expense of your bag. We all have one little luxury that we like to have, whether that be an expensive handbag or buying books when we could go to the library instead.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
Any action should be against the salon, the salon will then get the insurance company involved, this is the insurance companies part - they are merely representing/acting on behalf of the salon and indemnifying them.
Don't keep pestering them for their insurance details, pester them for a remedy. Forget the insurance company - the insurance company didn't damage your property, that's a contract between the salon and them.0
