Why don't you just take them to court for it?
You don't need a solicitor.
You don't have to faff about with anyone's insurance company (that's their job).
Just fill the form out online.
There is pre-action protocol to follow.
Failing to do so may mean a judge does not award op costs. They have already admitted ruining the bag. Just find a replacement price and sue them for it.
Also try to realise the value of the damaged bag then deduct that from any claim value. After all, 'betterment' is not an entitlement.0 -

Please let us know how you get on.
Well said. I can't believe some of the comments to the OP on here.
My hairdresser once bleached the back of my top. They asked me where it was from & how much it cost, then they told me to buy a replacement and bring the receipt in and they would would give me the money. Luckily (for them) the top was only £25 but the fact remains they spoilt it, they should rectify the matter.
Good luck op.If my posts have random wrong words, please blame the damn autocorrect not me

It does not sit well with a court if a claimant does not give the other side a chance to respond before taking court action. This needs to be in the form of a letter clearly setting out what action you consider appropriate and within what timescale.
I agree - but the OP needs to start this asap.
Having pointless conversations about solicitors and the age of bags is wasting time."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -

I agree she does, but because she has effectively wasted time with the pointless quest for insurance details does not mean she does not have to go the the proper procedures and instead just go straight to court action.0 -
Hi all,
I have spoken to the insurance yesterday who confirmed a claim has been raised and that they will be in contact shortly. The reason i was requesting the insurnace info was i didnt believe she had done anything about it. I have asked them to liaise with me direct as i have said the salon dont really get back to me with any info.
So we shall see where this goes.
and Mazza111 - thanks! and no no offence taken, i understand some people feel it is madness to spend that much on a bag and i often get some kind of 'your crazy' response when people say ooohhh thats nice bag, wheres it from? how much etc? that is people's opinion, to which everyone is entitled too.
But my defence is like i said earlier, i work hard and save my money for nice things - but i am not stuck up about it. i am just me and i like nicer things! my mum has always said i have champagne taste but a lemonade wage! :rotfl:
Sooo all in all i am not offended as such, it was just more the lovely lady who kindly told me my hair colour was chavvy, as what relevance to the post that was i will never no. but hey ho, you always get 1!
But about wearing old clothes and taking an old bag to a salon, i just have never personally experienced a problem with dye going anywhere. and i even moved my bag across to another station thing out of the way so it wouldnt, but she still managed too. but from now on i will know to leave my bag in the car and just take my purse. but saying that my luck would be i would get it on my purse so i will just take either my card or cash in my pocket! Hindsight a.... wonderfull thing :j:j
I will let you all know on how this goes on.
THANKS AGAIN TO EVERYONE, your advice has made me see i wasnt being too unreasonable about the situation.

Good luck OP, I too have a weakness for bags, namely Radley. I work hard and save hard. I don't smoke, drink, or gamble, I save up and spend my money on things I like and want. I try and buy my bags at Tula outlets, but sometimes I just HAVE to have that special bag.
Probably best not to leave your handbag in your car tho. Just use a cheapy bag for the time you go to the salon. Come back and tell us what happens.0 -
Oh hon, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying your mad to have such a bag, that's most definitely your choice. I just thought it was a wee bit daft taking it with you, but as I said that could just be me. We all do things differently in life, wouldn't it be boring if we were all the same. I'm not saying your wrong and I'm right in this either, they certainly had a duty of care to your belongings. That's great the claim has been raised and the ball has started rolling!!!
As for chavvy hair colour, seriously. I wouldn't let anyone who doesn't know me offend me. Some people suit red, some don't. I've had my hair colour every colour under the sun, including green, once and accident and once for a laugh :rotfl:
My DD is forever bleaching her hair. It's her one luxury. That and her hair extensions :rotfl: One off purchase that last and last. She too has had every colour under the rainbow, but my favs had to be the pink and the blue. Looked really nice.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
Which Insurer is it? I'm guessing MMA, Aegis, Aviva or RSA0

Hi, i've been a hairdressser for 15 years. To be honest i think the biggest annoyance here is the lack of customer service you recieved from your stylist and the hair salon. Regardless of the value whether it be financial or sentimental, you are the client and you and your belongings should be the most impotant thing to that stylist - if she ever wants a regular clientele! Her attitude was wrong and she doesn't deserve your custom. semi permanant reds will never lift dark roots sufficiantly to a bright red, although are better for holding on previously red or lifted hair. we are taught that bad news travels a lot quicker than good news so they ought to watch their reputation. I would take the 100 quid and ask for a refund of the services you paid for that day and never return. with the current financial climate - we need to value all the custom we recieve! x0

Hi all!
But if an update .... It has all kicked off! The hairdresser didn't actually have ANY insurance when she damaged my bag! I called the insurance today and they said we don't have anyone by that name! This confused as I spoke to someone previous who said they did.... Anyhow I rang the salon to tell them this and the salon owner has now text me - not rung - TEXT! Saying the following ....
'Hi, olas just foned her insurance company + the reason they wudnt tell you anythin is bcus altho shes insured now she wasnt at the time, wich i wasnt aware of so her insurance company as advised her to pay sum money 2wards the damage of wich shes willing 2 pay £150 plus u can claim yor groupon money back by emailing groupon customer services, i hope this helps.'
So basically she had lied saying she had insurance! Was she hoping I was going to just go away?!?! I am genuinely bemused by the whole situation !
I am going to send a letter before action and look to take to a small claims court... Any advise guys?!
