The compo you are entitled to is having your roots redone for free. Plus red is an awful colour. Why not go bright pink to go with your chavvy bag??

    Jealous much?

Green is not a good colour on you sad broad.

Why would you leave your bag in a place that it could be damaged by the hair dye?

You´re lucky to have been offered £100. It was just as much your responsibility to keep your belongings safe.

I would take the money, get a badge as someone else has suggested or something else to cover it and forget about it.

Next time you will know not to visit this hair salon for your hair done again and not to take expensive bags with you.

I don't think I was being abusive with my post tbh. However, I still stand by people taking responsibility. How many of you, if you were in this position, would have taken a handbag of such value to a place where you knew there was a risk of damage?

I don't even take my handbag to the hairdressers. I lift my purse and leave the handbag at home. And that might be an £8 primark handbag or a £1 handbag (yes I have a few of those too :rotfl:)

The OP is perfectly entitled to spend her hard earned cash on an expensive bag. She is also entitled to expect a salon to take care when handling dyes and bleaches, and a court would look to see if they had breached that duty of care.

I would start the ball rolling by sending a letter to the salon owner and the stylist saying that you hold them jointly responsible and that unless you receive a reasonable settlement you will go down the court route. Look on Ebay for completed auctions of similar bags and see if the shop where you purchased it will confirm the original selling price, then pick a figure which seems reasonable say £225. Tell them they have 14 days to settle or you will issue a court summons.....and do it.

Don't threaten what you do not intend to carry through. Good luck.

Visit any top West End salon and it is wall to wall designer bags. You should be able to go for a cut and colour and expect care to be taken with you and your belongings.

Well I wouldn't visit any top salon in the west end tbh. Probably as i live up north :D

I'm not knocking the OP in any way. The salon I visit has a disclaimer on the wall. Advising customers to wear old clothes just in case of accidents. There are a lot of chemicals in a salon that could damage clothing.

When I visit the salon, I do as the advisory says, I wear old clothes and don't take a handbag.

So do I;) but I have, on occasion, been lured down south!! They can have all the disclaimer notices they like, they aren't legally enforceable and a duty of care still exists.

No I know they aren't, but surely common sense should prevail. If you're painting the house, you cover your stuff, if you dye your hair you would cover your stuff, or remove it from the places it could be splashed...

I just wouldn't get caught in the position in the first place. And as I said, I'm not having a go at the OP. She probably does deserve some compensation, just hoping it will serve as a warning to others.
