    I don't know about checking out IP addresses, I want to know where this Oxfam branch is with all of the designer bags going cheap!
    "I have however spoken to the wife(by the way her name is not Lisa) who is more of an authority on this subject and she suggested take the £100 and turn the bag round ...... she also said the local Oxfam has racks of 'so called' designer labels going for a fiver. Wise woman keep shopping there."

    OP, do let us know how you get on if you go down the small claims route. Of course you should be compensated, lots of women take expensive bags or wear expensive clothes to a hair salon. And no-one with any sense will hang their bag up on a coat rack, you may just as well leave it in the shop doorway for someone to steal it! Ultimately, your belongings have been damaged due to the negligence of the staff, if you'd been shopping in B&Q and one of the staff split paint over your coat, you'd expect to compensated for the cost of either cleaning it or a replacement. Why is it different in a hair salon? And why should you wear old clothes or take an old bag? You may have been going straight to a job interview, or a wedding!

    So don't hang it up at the shop doorway INCASE somebody might steal it, but DO park it at your feet where it LIKELY WILL get covered in hair dye. Fantastic advice that!

    If you read the thread properly, you would know that the OP stated that she put the bag on the seat next to her and didn't "park it at her feet". The fact that the hairdresser STILL managed to splash hairdye on a bag a couple of metres away indicates supreme carelessness by the young lady wielding the dye!

    @Op...
    Keep us posted on how you get on, and as others have said, ignore the comments from keyboard warriors and social recluses, they just haven't got a clue.

    i'm not here to shine. I'm here reading hoping that the op gets something sorted, and to the morons that dont understand logic and so on, i'll say my piece.

    Simple fact is, lady works hard to buy something she likes, it gets damaged through no fault of her own, she wants a solution, and not an offer go buy a tescos bag instead.

    My car is rare, and 12 years old. If someone hit me and caused lots of damage, an insurance company might choose to right it off.
    The book/trade value would say £1700, based on
    Depreciation levels, and this is what an insurance company might try and offer me as compensation for my loss due to anothers negligence and lack of duty of care to other road users....

    However, as my car is rare, and holds value to the would-be buyers, the only 2 available to buy at the moment cost £4000+
    So do i seek to be put back in same situation as i was before ? like the 'Op' , or do u settle for a loss ?

    Using words like tard and morons detracts from any point you are trying to make. The above post is a mess and poorly constructed and therefore difficult to make sense of.

    Do you realy think personal insults is nessesary to get that message across.

    For the record, I too would like to see the OP back in the exact position she was in before the incident.
