I find it odd that this whole thread has attracted so many newbies, all offering effectively the same opinion.
Somebody must think we are all exceptionally stupid.
Many members around here have become permanent fixtures of MSE and can usually tell when something doesn't smell right... and this smells rotten0 -

Absolutely, which based on all the facts and information provided the general consensus it the offer they have made is not reasonable.
A judge would base their decision on what a 'reasonable' person would expect, so despite the fact our opinions ultimately don't count if it goes to court, it does give op a fair assessment of what is 'reasonable' based on the opinions of many impartial and level headed individuals.Personally i would not take my designer bags into a saloon and if so feel it would be my responsibility, my property my insurance. if all my hair fell out then i would sue the salon
That's neither here nor there. The fact of the matter is op did take the bag in and the hair dresser did damage it. Prevention is better than the cure, but that doesn't mean they are not liable because of their negligence - and this is exactly the reason business' should have insurance, not doing so is just reckless imo.0 -

If she goes in with 3 ebay listings for her bag, now rare, having sold at £1000 each on eBay then the judge will award her £1000 to get another 2nd hand one.
He will not care that the hairdresser offered £100 and put the amount in the middle of the 2 offers, he will give the claimant the amount she needs to get her bag. All she needs is proof of the damage (the hairdresser has already admitted liability by sending it off to be cleaned) and to show how much the item is now worth.
Plus the OP would get all of her court costs back which would probably end up over £200. However much she wins she would still get her court costs paid so ti would cost the hairdresser much more.
Whether or not YOU would taken the bag into the salon is neither here nor there, she did and it got damaged. The hairdresser sent it off to be cleaned so has already admitted liability so there is absolutely no issue there.0 -
If the salon owner has any sense she will put up a sign saying that they are not liable for people bringing in a £500 handbag and it getting damaged.
Has this astoundingly expensive handbag ever been put on the floor, or is a coat laid down for it?
By the way, is it acceptable that only people with 10,000 posts are allowed to have opinions on this forum? If it is, then that is disgusting.0 -
People are allowed to spend their money on whatever they want.
I think 60k for a car is too expensive but it does not seen to stop others spending that kind of money on one. Of course, I'd like to have a nice Range Rover Sport - but I'd be too scared to drive it in case it got damaged.
Same with the lady with the bag, it got damaged, someone else has admitted the blame, she just wants to buy another 2 year old bag - she is not asking for a new one.0 -

Bit of a difference between a fashion accesory and a means of transport
As i said nobody died
What difference would that be, they are both property and over both you have a legal right for redress if a negligent third party damaged them.0 -
I have never seen a thread attract so many newbies all with the opinion,0
