Hair Salon Got dye on my bag.... PLEASE HELP

Exactly the key is the value of a second hand bag and how much to have it cleaned.
I wonder if Marianne was asked by someone in the shop if they could hang up her coat/bag ummmm it could be argued the salon tried to mitigate risk but the claimant said no thereby taking responsibility for the bag ... I'm not saying the salon does not still have a duty of care but so does the claimant .... it could be argued.
Then your in to a situation where you apportion blame it may be the split of blame lies at a 70:30 split in favor of the claimant ..... ummm the bags value comes into the equation etc etc ....this is why I advise take the £100.
Your questions don't warrant a response.0 -

Having worked in a lab. I'm not convinced the 'stain' cannot be removed for much less than £100.
The issue of repair has been brought up a couple of times but seems to be brushed under the table. Op seems reluctant to even try this route, although it would be fair for a court to ask if a repair was attempted or at the very least looked in to, to see if it is a viable option.0 -

..refund...replace...repair? is my thinking.0 -
i am sure this has been aksed already but will the op take responsibility for taking a £695 bag into a hairdressers knowing full well that she is going to have her hair dyed red and that accidents happen . perhaps she should learn to take better care of her property ,
I agree with that.
If a bag is so precious to someone they will spend hundreds and hundreds of pounds on it, would they really be so stupid as to plonk it right beside them when they knew they'd made an appointment for a hair colour?
They would have the sense to know that hair colour usually contains chemicals, no?
Would the OP have worn her best £500 Dior jumper for a hair cououring appointment?0 -
hi all
well it all seems to have gone off on one again. firstly ref the above, i have gone over this previously i put the bag out of the way and it still got dye on it.
secondly whoever said about i have ignored repair - i haven't, they took to get cleaned and it come back still with the mark on it. hence why i didnt look in to it furhter.
i have asked for this amount as it is what i deem to be reasonable and i am aware that will be amount i will get, so my £495 leaves room for neogoation.
all in all the facts remain the same. the salon got dye on my bag and then lied about insurance they didnt have in the hope i would naff off!
so i am definately going to pursue it! and as for the comment of i may be taking some young girl for all of her money - well i am not, i am 26 myself and saved up for a long time for my bag. so why should she ruin my bag and then walk away fine saying well sorry it isnt my fault.
oh the joys of the internet!
and thanks to everyone who actually understands where i am coming from xx:j I'm getting married on 22nd Febuary 2015 :j0 -

So you admit you put it somewhere YOU deemed safe..and it got damaged?0 -

Out of the way does not necessarily mean where she deemed it safe, it means where any reasonable person may deem it safe. If the salon t and/or stylist thought it was not safe they should have told the customer. They clearly did not, maybe they deemed it safe also?0 -

Okay fair enough. I don't recall reading anything about you going down this route (but to be fair this thread is now 8 pages long).
Remember to add the cost of this to the claim
.
I think the amount you are asking is a little too much, but I understand your point about leaving room to move. At least after seeing a figure like £495 they will feel much better about forking about £300 ish or whatever would be fair to sort it out0 -
Its all very well us saying what we think it is, or is not, worth but it'll ultimately be down to a judge to decide if it goes to SC Court.0
