I got my agreement today, no mention of the credit amount......
The covering letter says 'You Barclaycard is ready and waiting' and the agreement is enclosed. Is it what everyone has got?
Should I sign even though I don't even know what amount they are offering??!!! I wouldn't even be bother to get it if they were offering me £250....I don't want a HUGE balance but at least a credit card that I could use while travelling of something.
Strange thing is I checked my Experian online report, no searches on the file. How could they offer you a card without checking the credit report? Any idea?
Cheers!0 -
That is standard practice with them I'm afraid - although it may be possible, as I think others have done this, to ring Barclaycard and ask them what it is.
If you were to sign without checking - or you ring them and they fob you off saying it's in the process of being set etc, you can still cancel the agreement. Somewhere in the terms and conditions it says if you wish to cancel, cut the card in two and send it to a certain address (well, it did not that long ago as my partner did just that when they wanted to charge her something like 24.9% APR)
Not giving your credit limit when you sign must be common practice - as they can then say they've had so many new customers (even if those new ones cancel soon afterwards). Sainsbury's Bank do the same, and I'm sure many others must do to.
With the Experian thing, not too sure, maybe (others will know more) it doesn't appear immediately? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I think you will find that Barclaycard search Equifax and not Experian.Charles J0

I think they can use either or both if they want. Perhaps they use one by default but I don't know if it is guaranteed. Anyone know for sure?0

Ohhh...I can confirm that Barclays use Equifax for sure - as I just checked my Equifax file and the search was there. Nothing on Experian so far.
I was under the impression that they use both...perhaps as Gal said, may be they use Equifax by default and use Experian if they want to investigate further. Has anyone got any search by Barclays on Experian's file?0 -
As I thought, if you already have a 0% Barclaycard, when the offer ends it's 13.9% APR.
If you don't, and you apply now, it's 14.5% APR.
I know many people, as they use this site, will get rid of their cards when the offer ends, but some may keep it.

New to this thread so sorry if this issue has been raised b4.
Got my card this morning then registered online and started to process a BT. Became suspicious (it is Barclays, after all!) when I saw prominent red letters warning me that my transaction would be processed at the rate shown "on the previous page" - which appeared to be the 2.9% for EXISTING cardholders.
Phoned Customer Service and after 30 mins of being passed from pillar to post, I was finally told I could not get the 0% promotional rate if I processed the transfer online.
They DID carry out the transfer for me on the phone but thats hardly the point.0 -
I think I have been quite lucky after reading all the accounts posted here! I applied at the local Barclays branch on Saturday 12 June & was told 3 weeks for the application to be processed. I phoned the customer line after 2 weeks & was still told 3 weeks maximum.
I received the PIN for my card during the week of 28 June (sorry can't be more specific as working away from home I just have a pile of post when I get back on Friday nights!) The card arrived in the post on Saturday 3 July so it was indeed the 3 weeks. I think the guys applying online must have had the worst deal somehow in length of time for app to be processed.
I asked for money to goto my MBNA card & £3150 (cr limit £3500) was transferred in. Meanwhile I moved £3150 out from MBNA into my current account which arrived on 8th July and was sent same day by Bill Payment through to my ING savings account. I've checked & the Barclaycard money did arrive quite quickly into the MBNA account.
Then those lovely people at MBNA were ringing me all through the week of 12 July (according to my mum who kept ignoring my phone but was a bit worried that it kept ringing!). I answered their call on Friday afternoon when I got back home & they wanted to offer me more money at a fixed 0% for a period. I said how much & for how long as I did have a few purchases I would like to make & they said until January & as much as you want! So I moved £5000 of my £5,200 MBNA limit over to my current account & I have that on 0% until January! Perhaps their records showed I had payed back the £3150 & so I was a good credit risk for more money ;D
First time I've ever tried this revenge thing & it is sweet! Both Barclaycard & MBNA have minimum direct debits set up so I don't miss a payment & 'fall' out of my interest free agreement!
So Barclaycard money £3150 is in my ING account & the MBNA money is on it's way to the new Cahoot savings account I set up (after seeing it on this site as a great savings account)I'll see how Cahoot goes & I may well transfer the £3150 there as well, just want to see how quick the money can get back to current account when needed before I put all my eggs in that particular basket as their application process was a joke! Incompetent fools who chased for forms to be returned when they admit they hadn't even sent them out in the first place! Then (having already set up a direct debit to move money around & confirmed the message on their website to say I agreed with the banking info they tell me I don't have a direct debit set up when I try to use it! Sheesh! What we'll suffer for good rates eh?
I hope everyone who is waiting gets their card soon & a decent limit too.Sad because you don't know what to do? Comping question? Take a look in the Comping Guide to find out0 -
i am sure this has been said asked somewhere, but cant find it.
how do you set up a direct debit to barclaycard?
do I have to phone them up?
can i do it online?
i have a long term debt, and intend to pay specific amount each month automaticallysmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

I set mine up over the phone when I rang them to sort out the balance transfer to MBNA. I have received a Barclaycard statement now telling me that my payment will go through by direct debit - there is a phone number on there for 'any queries about this statement' which is 0800 9177 277
Hope that helps!Sad because you don't know what to do? Comping question? Take a look in the Comping Guide to find out0
