Just received my barclaycard this morning after a 4 week wait. The plan was to use it on holiday.
They have given me and my wife a £300 credit limit compared to £8500 on my HSBC card.
Rang them to complain as i have a good credit record but they spouted off drivel about been reviewed in 6 months time. Wow. The cards are now in pieces in the litter bin.
My advice Barclays / Barclaycard avoid.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
FINALLY I received my new Barclaycard - haven't activated it yet. I can't find anything in the terms and conditions about only being able to balance transfer 90% of the credit limit at 0%. Have they dropped that restriction? Can I BT the whole (not very generous) credit limit at 0%?
From experience with last year's deal [0% for life with £1 spend], you can transfer upto 90% of your remaining credit limit. So, in theory, you could get to 99% with two transfers. There was a mimimum value of £250 on transfers, however, and three months in which to complete them. I made the first 3 months repayments (at 2%) as usual, and an extra manual repayment to create a remaining credit limit of £278. I was thus able to transfer a second amount just ahead of the 3 months cut-off, leaving me only £29 unused - 99.4%.
I suggest you clarify with Barclaycard all the relevant conditions on transfers, and see if you can arrange to de something similar
Good luck ;).....under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam0 -

I applied for this great offer 5 weeks ago online, but despite their promise of a reply within 7 days have heard nothing. Re-applied 2 weeks ago and still nothing. Are they just incompetent and rude or have I been rejected and will waste my time if I apply again? I do have a credit card, but always pay it off on time.0

I am absolutely fuming........
I have just received my New Customer 0% Barclaycard this morning, and the promotion turns out to be a total con by Barclaycard. I have an excellent credit history, yet my credit limit has been set to just over £300. It means I can only transfer or spend £300, to take advantage of 0% interest. I have rung Barclaycard customer services, and they say that they can only review the credit limit figure after a 6 month period, so we are reallistically receiving a 6 month 0% interest figure, which at the moment is less than some other credit cards that are currently being promoted. I feel so cheated that I have told Barclaycard to cancel the card.
I feel we are being duped through cunningly misleading promotional activity by Barclaycard.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
There is an artical in the Sun newspaper today saying
Barclaycard has been rapped by watchdogs for missleading customers.
The advertising standards authority says that Britians biggest credit card firm was wrong to imply it's card was better value than competitors.
It follows a complaint from the consumers !!!!!!, about a advert promising no interest on purchases and debt transfers from rivals cards.
The add did not make it clear that to take advantage of the offer, Barclays customers had to spend £50 a monthand would run up more debts than with a rival card.
Does this affect the original offer on transfers. ???
I have succesfully obtained a card and transfered debts on to it, Do I still have to spend £50 a month ?0 -
@MartinWi
Perhaps you should post your details on the thread Martin is maintaining to try and establish of there is a pattern of low limits making the offer worthless.0 -
@querky
You need to check the terms and conditions of the offer you signed up for. This was an older offer which I think closed some time ago but there is no harm in making sure.0 -
That article is referring to the 0% offer Barclaycard had a while ago - which caused the boss of the company to appear in front of a Select Committee (where he said he wouldn't use the product himself).
Barclaycard also had to withdraw misleading advertising on that offer.
It doesn't in any way refer to the current 0% until August 2005 offer.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
