If so called uncle was not working as instructed by garage, then for this journey the car was not insured.
Once the car is parked on the road it may be untaxed but it is most definately not uninsured, i bet you believe that having no mot would mean no insurance also.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -

No doubt you belive no mot means no insurance as well? That's the one overwintered in my garage done for then.
And if the tax has expired, it can also be driven to and from the test station. Though, you cannot park this car on the highway.I hvae nt snept th lst fw mntes writg ths post fr yu t cme alng hre nd agre wth m!

Well, mine had no tax, no sorn, but certainly was insured when I took it for it's mot. You'll have to post up who you're insured with, and give a link to their t&c's.0 -

So you are allowed to drive an uninsured car to a test station?

I've been given very bad advice by a lady at the post office that said they would only accept the 'true copy' of my insurance certificate! Tomorrow will be an eventful day!
Since April 2010 the DVLA have said Fax and downloaded copies of insurance documents are acceptable. But in practice if the jobsworth behind the counter won't accept the cert then it doesn't matter what the rules are.
As a printed certificate from the insurer printed on their printer looks exactly like a printed certificate from the insurer printed on a home printer to be on the safe side I print my certificate, fold it and score the edges as if it has been posted in an envelope and if anyone queries it I tell them it's the one the insurance company posted to me.0 -
If the vehicle was untaxed, was it SORNed instead? If it wasn't SORNed or taxed, then chances are DVLA will have the registration number on their 'naughty' list, so if they spot it on the road it'll be towed.
I think this is an important reminder to everyone buying a car - make sure it's taxed before you drive away with it.
OP, you're probably just going to have to bite the bullet and pay the fine - your car was untaxed on a public road. When the PO wouldn't sell you the tax, you should've rung the DVLA straight away to find out what you can do, and made sure your car was on a friend's drive until it was sorted.0 -
