Car towed for no tax just after I bought it

get onto insurer first thing or now and tell them you need an insurance certificate now either by fax or in the post now
unfortunately as you say until you have the tax disc they wont release the vehicle but i would suggest you let them know this so as they dont dispose of it
you will have to pay the fees though im afraid and the car is yours once you bought it
to be honest the mechanic who drove it home for you really should have advised you to park it off the road even at his premises until it was fully road legal0 -
Too be honest s b Im just soo fed up with it all at the moment. I've not tried to con anyone nor applied the attitude, I'm not going to tax it and see how long I can get away with it. I've been given very bad advice by a lady at the post office that said they would only accept the 'true copy' of my insurance certificate! Tomorrow will be an eventful day!0

Hi All
I desperately need someones help. I recently bought a car and as soon as I bought it I got fully comprehensive insurance on it. It has a current MOT but doesn't have tax. It was today towed away and impounded for the no tax. However, the DVLA still don't have it in my name as they say it can take 4-6 weeks to process and that's if the guy I bought the car from sent it off straight away. My insurance documents haven't arrived yet and the post office I went to to get my tax told me I had to bring in original insurance documents to prove my insurance. So I cannot get my tax at the post office and cannot order it online as it still isn't in my name. I live in a terraced house and so don't have a driveway and therefore cannot take it off the road. I just think this is SO unfair. I could buy the tax today its not like I'm trying to avoid it. The impound are going to want hundreds of pounds from me to get my car back and I cannot do it yet as they will want to see the tax first. Plus they conveniently close at 16:30 just before I was able to call them so I will have to wait until the morning.
Anyone at all have any advice?
Thanks, Tony.
OP. For others to help you, and there are some around this part of the parish, you will have to give some credence to your stray, like dates and times. Otherwise, they cannot help you.
As I understand it, your mate had an untaxed car, and needed money. So you bought the car off him. It remained untaxed, and as today is about the 21st of June, it has been, I suggest, untaxed for about three weeks? As a driver, I cannot condone the use of a vehicle on the road that is untaxed, as as such, uninsured as well. Whether you used it or not is immaterial to this. One lesson to earn from this, when a mate needs money, and gives you some surety as an incentive, do not part with your cash until the said object is taxed etc.
If you genuinely have been done wrong, then you will have to get your facts right, more than you gave done so here. To me, I can say I recently got married. That could mean it was last Saturday, last month, or today.I hvae nt snept th lst fw mntes writg ths post fr yu t cme alng hre nd agre wth m!

I think you misunderstood and left out the first few of words0 -
The lady at the post office when I first tried did insist they wanted the official posted documents and only accepted emailed/online documents from swiftcover (i'm with tescos).
If you have the same problem tomorrow see if it possible for you to travel to the local DVLA office. Last time I purchased a new car I guessed it was easier to travel the extra 3miles to go to the office than it was to queue at the P/O (it was the end of the month so 'tax day' anyways). Took green slip from V5, MOT certificate and a print out of my insurance. After a 5min wait in a queue system and approx 2min with the advisor I had my tax disc in hand. Much easier than the P/O but more complicated than online sadly.0 -
Which questions haven't I answered s b that weren't already answered previously?People were probably querying your use of the word 'recently' because you said...Ok so your saying from your post that I should buy the car from him and tell him that he must keep it on his drive for 4-6 weeks until I manage to sort the tax out???
I know you said otherwise, but is that the time you had it sitting on the road with no tax and insurance?0 -
1. you say you haven't got a drive
2. you knew the car wasn't taxed
3. bought it Sunday, got uncle to drive it home on trade plates.
4. got insurance when exactly? (Monday?) - you're already illegal.
5. got bad advice at the post office - when?
6. car was removed and impounded - when?
'I think it's unfair' - quit whining, them's the rules
'I could tax it today' - no you can't, you don't have insurance cert..
'Anyone at all have any advice?' - get a fax or email insurance cert, tax it, pay the fees to get it back. Next time plan and think it through instead of jumping in feet-first.The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0
