    Good morning everyone

Little Victory yesterday - walk, plus 1km exercise bike, plus 5 reps of each exercise on multi-gym

Little Victory for today - I can still move :rotfl:

Glorious day - off to see OH this morning.

Watched Phil & Kirsty - it was Derby and Nottingham so recognised a lot of the places they took the people too. Personally I wouldn't have touched the areas in Nottingham they went to, especially with two incipient teenagers. 4 bed, two bath detached house for £170K - way too cheap;)

If a deal seems to be good to be true - then it is.

Watched the programme - interesting but nothing particularly new or startling - eat well, avoid the sun - the usual.

    Must dash.

Bet you felt loads better for it too :T:T:T
You'll be jogging before you know it!

VERY VERY VERY EXCITED (and a little bit nervous!)
Have just booked myself a flight to Ibiza and a hotel for 4 nights for mid August:eek::j:eek:
Going on my own to a quietish resort for a few days relaxation and a bit of sun. My plan is to sunbathe, sleep, read, swim and watch the world go by. All food is included buffet style so there's no awkward eating at resturants alone and I've checked that there is Wifi and TV in the room so I won't get too lonely.
    What have I done?
The flight was a bargain (£100 return) and the hotel was £60 a night all in on a late booking site - got good reviews on Tripadvisor.
    Better get bikini ready now:rotfl:

    Morning all,

Glad most people seem to be a bit brighter/feeling a bit better today :)

Am a bit annoyed to be honest, not sure if I'm over-reacting. I've been lending my camera to OH and his film crew a bit, at first I said it was just for odd occasions when they were struggling but their main camera broke so basically they've been asking me a lot, taking it every night for a week etc. A few weeks ago I asked about borrowing their lights for a photo shoot (these are part OH's as they all chipped in for them) they said fine, I book studio, customers etc. A few days before I've still not got them, the main guy is on holiday, OH asking the other guy who has no clue about it and doesn't know where they are - doesn't bother looking for them though! Anyway, I end up having to cancel and losing out on money. Was not very impressed. Fast forward 2 weeks, they want to borrow camera again, I tell OH I'm getting a bit sick of it but end up agreeing. Today I see that they've uploaded their entry to a competition and missed OH off the credits, even though he noticed on the rough upload and they said they'd change it. He's annoyed but is just going to 'let it go'.
I said that after this time I don't want them borrowing the camera again (was going to cancel this time but am trying not to be petty) as quite frankly I'm sick of them never being bothered to do the smallest thing for us when i constantly do them favours. Apparently this makes me a horrible person who is just doing it to spite them. I don't think it's that unreasonable not to want to lend it out constantly, it's not a communal camera like their kit is - it's something I'm trying to build up a business with and if anything happened to it I would be stuffed.

Anyway, sorry for the negativity, just needed a wee rant I think :o Hope everyone else is having a better day x

Post crossed. Sorry to hear this - tbh this is exactly what I'm going through at the moment.

It's funny isn't it. I've been fine for weeks and then wham, from nowhere, all those panicky thoughts, tummy in knots, aches and pains - it all comes rushing back.

I don't know any easy answers. For me I just grit my teeth, head down and push through it. Oh ....and avoid my father. :rotfl:

Isn't it ridiculous - a 61 year old has to do that for self preservation.
hope you are feeling a bit better LL. I'm the ame really just get on with it and wait to come out the other side.

I'm reading Chavs - the demonisation of the Working Classes by Owen Jones. Quite an opinionated young man with tunnel vision for his own view of the world but I have only read 40 pages so maybe he'll change! .
    .[/QUOTE]
i read that a while ago. some of it rings true but i do think you have to remember which viewpoint he comes from. don't actually think he's been in the position some of us on here are in.

well done you. maybe one day i'll be confident enough to do something like this!!

PP I would have been cross too. Some people just take the p**s. Think you're well within your rights to say no next time they want to lend camera.
Haven't managed my couch to 5k yet this week -its too hot for me. Did go for a walk for 2 hrs yesterday though with DS1 who walks as if he's in army training so that must count for something.:rotfl::rotfl:
Just back from the funeral so feeling a bit low. Will be up and raring to go tomorrow though. Just having a bit of reflection -it just makes me realize how I perhaps don't see whats in front of my eyes. Didn't realize how old and doddery my dad was looking but he is. Think it got to him a bit, he's the only man of that generation left in the family now. As someone said though unfortunately death is part of life and we just have to cope with it.
Hope you are all enjoying the sun( if you've got it)

Hi back again to finish my chat.

Sorry had to dash - another pointless telephone call with benefit people, banging my head against a brick wall. At least the poor man at the other end of the phone saw my point and completely agreed with me at the unfairness of it all. Doesn't help my bank account though.

I also have an ATOS meeting next week - I just know they will overturn my Doctor's report and cancel my ESA. Never mind I will just have to raid what's left of my savings.

I know this is wishing my life away but I truly cannot wait until my pension kicks in November and then it's Goodbye to the lot of them.

I know what you mean Lizzie about academics in their ivory towers writing books about the working classes (or perhaps that should be non-working classes these days).

When I was at uni and had to sit through endless drivel about Marxism etc I used to look at these trendy oh so cool metro types who just wanted to be working class heroes and think !!!!!! do you know about being working class.

Being brought up in leafy suburbia instead of the council estate I hail from, having every advantage laid at your door instead of being denied the opportunity of further education and being forced to work in a series of low paid dead end jobs whilst paying my own way through night school and evening classes. Watching your parents work all hours that God sent - my dad working two jobs to pay the rent and put food on the table, watching my mother, an educated woman who spoke 4 languages, being forced to work in a rough pub on said council estate to help ends meet.

There's nothing glamourous about being working class. As you say Lizzie a dose of real life would do them some good.

I remember having to put one particular photography lecturer right. I had to point out to him that John Lennon was not a working class hero. His Aunt Mimi who brought him up was as middle class as they come, same with Paul McCartney. Working class children did not have their guitars brought for them. There would have been no money. Families would often have club together to pay for the school uniforms of any child clever enough to win a place to grammar school, as for music lessons - pull the other one.:rotfl:

    Completely clueless. Rant over. :o

(Sorry but you can see that phone call with the benefits office has left me fizzing).

pp Whilst I am in rant mode:rotfl:
No, no, no. You most definitely are not being unreasonable. Quite the reverse. You have been extremely tolerant and forbearing. It is your OH's so called friends and - to a lesser extent - your OH who are taking advantage of your generosity and kindness.

Your OH seems to be unwilling to stand up to them, they most certainly are taking the p*ss - as Lizzie so elegantly puts it.

Your camera won't have come cheap, it's not a toy, it's for your business. You are quite right to be worried what would happen if it got damaged. Would they reimburse you - doubt it. Would they pay you recompense for lost business - of course not.

As for not crediting your OH - well that really takes the biscuit.
These are not the actions of genuine friends - they come over as being greedy selfish and thoughtless.

I'm sorry PP - I know that makes me sound very judgemental but I think you are being taken for a ride.

WW - well done. You've got a real bargain there and it sounds like just the thing for a first go it alone holiday. I'm sure you'll have a fab time.

I have looked at those Solo or Single holidays - no not that sort:rotfl::rotfl: They look good but are very expensive. I think trying a short mini break first is an excellent idea.

Had a lovely day with OH. He was on good form today, bright and cheerful, very witty and charming.

It's still very hot here, so no exercise yet - just the bike and multi-gym when it's cooler. I've hurt my ankle so no walk today. Also going to pick some blackcurrants when it's cooler.
  • WW Well done on booking the holiday, sounds exciting! I bet you'll have a fab time!

PP They shouldn't just expect use of your camera, especially if they are unwilling to help you out. It was good of you to help them out in the first place but they shouldn't expect use of it all of the time. I think you should stand your ground, especially if you need it for work. It is your camera after all.

    My little victories for today:
    1. I didn't collapse from the heat despite a long walk!
    2. I took advantage of the sunshine and remembered to hang my washing on the line before I left the house ( I often forget and it gets left in the machine until I get home and gets crinkled!).
    3. I have been drinking plenty of water and took my vit pill.
    4. I have felt cheerful most of the day. :)

Thanks guys, I do get made to feel sometimes like I'm being totally unreasonable  I've said they can have it Thursday as I'd already agreed to that and it's short notice to cancel but after that they can sort something else out. The guy in charge is meant to have been buying a camera for months now and it hasn't materialised - but that's not exactly my fault! I think it's more just the lack of respect that's getting to me - they never bother asking me, they just text OH to ask me, they don't bother saying thanks - or again is through OH - and this was just really the last straw. Not even had a proper apology for them messing things up for me - apparently the guy who was in 'hadn't been told' and the guy in charge 'was away so it wasn't his fault'. I've run a business and when you're in charge then everything is your fault or you won't get very far :rotfl:

Anyway, Lizzie hope you're ok hun, sounds like a sad day.

WW - meant to see, well done on booking on the holiday, so exciting :)

LL - not quite solo holidays but we went away a few years ago to Austria with Crystal, they do kind of activity holidays. They do a kind of chalet accomodation where everyone eats breakfast and dinner together and then lots of activities arranged (all optional so you can do as many or as few as you want, first 2 were included in the price) like trips out, activities based round the area etc. Me and OH aren't really the 'talk to strangers' type but it created a really nice atmosphere and everyone ended up getting on really well. There were a few singles on it and we were saying at the time it would be a nice trip in that position as you had the meals to chat to people and the actitivies were friendly but then could go and do your own thing as well. Probably best holiday we've had and wasn't that expensive, especially considering most food was included.

my only victory today is that i haven't melted in this heat!

PP - you are not being unreasonable. if i were you, just say "i'm sorry, i have a job booked" the next few times they ask. they'll soon get the message to buy their own when their own business comes down to it!

ww - the holiday sounds good!

PP - I think you're perfectly within your rights to be miffed. OH probably doesn't want to rock the boat but I'd definitely be using the camera the next time they ask.

LL - good to hear you had a good day with OH.
Lizzie - hope you're feeling better after the funeral?

MRG and Evilsquid- loving the victories!

Thanks for all of the holiday good wishes - I'm getting used to the idea now.:)
I used to travel all over the world alone for my job before I was a teacher so that bit isn't new but the holiday part alone is. I'm sure I'll be fine;)
Its 3 weeks today so no let up on the diet front from now on - I'd love to lose another 5 lbs by the time I go to make it a stone altogether but that may be a bit ambitious. Will give it a good go though.

Finally finished reading The Help today - very good would recommend it, I haven't seen the film though so don't know how it compares.
My next one (no 3 of the 10 holiday reads) is called Pigeon English by Stephen Kelman - was a Booker prize winner apparently, I just picked it up in the library as it had a good cover.

I managed to mark a set of yr 11 books this afternoon so I have done something productive as well as being a lady of leisure.:rotfl:
Right, off to think of a few things to get done tomorrow so I don't waste the day.

My little victories today and yesterday was taking down the living room curtains and washing them, drying them and putting them back up and wiping down the skirting boards and hoovering all the muck up. All up safely and clean and aired.

Today's victory was doing the same with the front door curtain to dry tomorrow.

Another victory was getting up to do Shred before work when I didn't really feel like it but felt much better after it.

Tomorrow's victories will be Shred and a bike ride and washing and drying some more heavy items and rehanging the door curtain too

WW - your holiday sounds lovely. Deep breath and be brave and you will enjoy it I am sure
