Frump to Fab - Sizzling Summer Solstice to Awesome Autumn Equinox

Morning to you all,
I have also managed to stop smoking. Now I just need to tackle the few pounds that I have put on and make sure I get fit. I do have a gym membership but am thinking that maybe couch to 5k and 30 day shred maybe better for me?
Hi Djenks!
I wouldn't bother with a gym to start with (especially in the summer) as you can do some things for free and in your own time, rather than paying for them or being tied to one place. I use the local council pool for swimming at £3ish a go, I jog (ish!) outside in the park or local streets and use DVDs at home as well as dog walking. Until you know what you like and want to do don't give up your dosh;)
Well done on giving up smoking. If you belong to a gym it seems a shame not to use it but sparkles and ww (resident excercise gurus:D) do seem to be getting on really well with the other programmes plus cycling and swimming!
Exercise expert:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:You wouldn't think that if you saw me puffing my way around the park:eek:
I just have a go and if I don't enjoy it do something I do do like instead.
LL - have you been out for your walk yet? Use an ipod or mp3 player - the music really does make you go a bit faster.
Happy birthday Mooloo!
EH - the Swansea bay is my old stomping ground - grew up not far away and spent 7 years at Swansea Uni. In fact I've just arrived home from a weekend at the "welsh" home (mum and dad's).
Well, just back from the 4 hour drive from Wales and glad to be home. I love mum and dad to bits but a weekend is enough;)
Got a bit frustrated yesterday as it was a lovely day and I wanted to get out in the sunshine but noone was interested and I felt like like I couldn't just leave them there as I was visiting. When I suggested taking the dogs to the beach I got "you won't be able to park", a walk up the river "it'll be too warm", going to the local park "don't fancy it"! Grrr:mad: My parents are only in their 60s not their 80s! I got up and went swimming at 8am and did 50 lengths and my mum was quite bemused by it all and said later on "have a sit down, you've been swimming that's enough for today, you'll wear yourself out!".
Didn't sleep very well last night as I hadn't dome enough in the day:(
I did get accidentally hit in the face in the pool and now have a lovely bruise above my eye and a sore nose. Not a fab look!
Food has been a minefield too - being a guest is hard work when you're trying to be good. It could have been worse but it most certainly could have been a lot better. Oh well, will have to be extra good until Friday if I'm going to sneak a lb off this week.
Not sure what I'm going to do for the rest of the day - probably tackle the lawns again later and a bit of dogwalking. And if I'm feeling really brave the next Couch to 5K run (when it cools down a bit).
With regards to my list of things to do over the summer hols here's this week's efforts.....
Social
Walk with work friend in the deer park on Friday
Organised walk with Spice group on Weds
Possible pub night with meet up group on Thurs
Possible night out on Sat with dogwalking friend
Exercise
Finish week 3 of Couch to 5K and start week 4:eek:
Do at least 1 more swimming session
Couple of Shreds (L2)
Personal Fabbing
Stick to diet
Get eyebrows done
Dye hair (still not done it:o)
Face mask
Do the usual maintainance stuff
Work stuff
Mark some books and start a new scheme of work for special needs kids.
On the subject of reading, I'm halfway through The Help (bookclub read). Not one that I would have chosen but I am enjoying it - haven't seen the film so I'm open minded to teh story at the moment.
Hope everyone is enjoying the sun - long may it last
I'm off now (after my mammoth post, sorry!)0 -
Just a quickie to remind those that are interested that there is a Horizon on BBC2 at 9pm all about the truth about looking younger without surgery. May be worth a watch?0
-
Meant to be say, was actually good this weekend and went for a walk on Saturday - only about 45mins with a wee break in the middle but it's a start! And then the buses were rubbish yesterday so ended up walking down to the meetup so probably about the same again. Am going to try and make the effort to squeeze a little bit in most days - though saying that is absolutely chucking it down here today0

Thanks WW - I just came on here to give you a heads up on that one.
Have just woken up from a lovely siesta.
Managed a short walk, and have done quite a bit of gardening.
A bit more gardening now, then if my back allows, a few minutes on the exercise bike.
Have caught the sun so have a nice bit of colour now - tonight will give myself a manicure and pedicure whilst watching a bit of TV.
It's a lovely afternoon so might sit out in a bit with my book and a nice glass wine. Pretend I'm on holiday.:rotfl:0 -
Bum bum bum!
Have hurt my back:mad:
By sneezing of all things! Its in a place where its "gone" before. It will get better over the next few days if past experiences are anything to go by, but at the moment I'm in pain:(.
That means no vigourous exercise for a little while - I walked the dog for half an hour to try to loosen it up a bit and its ok when up but sitting and getting up and down hurt.
Will have a bath and gentle stroll later to try to sort it out a bit.
At least it means I don't have to dye my hair tonight - can't lean over the sink:rotfl:0 -
Lizzie157 Sorry you aren't feeling so good at the moment. Try to take it easy. Lavender usually helps calm me if I'm feeling anxious, and just trying to have a bit of quite time to myself. My mum used to have relaxation CD that I found helpful, with the sounds of a rain-forest and also one with a thunderstorm (although probably not good for those who are scared of storms!). She doesn't have it anymore but I have been thinking about getting a similar one (or maybe the sound of waves crashing) as it really used to relax me.
Hopefully it is just a cyst then but I thought that would have shown up on the scan?
LL I occasionally get panic attacks (although I haven't for a while). It's a really horrible feeling. I try to avoid situations that I know may trigger them, but that does mean I sometimes miss out. It doesn't make you a coward if you aren't quite ready to face your father yet, the time apart from him might do you some good. When you feel you are ready maybe you could go round there for just a short time (make sure you have a reason to be able to leave) so it doesn't get too overwhelming.
Mooloo Sorry it's a bit late but HAPPY BIRTHDAY Sorry you didn't have a good day, make sure you celebrate when you are feeling a bit better,
Maman- You can call me MRG if it is easier!
Rachelja- I like the idea of having some gentle fabbing when I'm having a bad day. It's difficult sometimes to just stop and be kind to yourself when there is so much going on.
djenks - Love the capsule wardrobe! Loving the purple, my fave colour. My wardrobe looks nothing like that unfortunately!
WW - I'll watch the Horizon programme, sounds interesting. Thanks for that! How is your bruised nose? Ouch!
Sorry to anyone I have missed! It is hard to keep up, i apologise if I get mixed up at times!
I have had a better couple of days, had a nice lay in yesterday and feel heaps better for it.:)January 2016:

Glad you got the hot water sorted sparkles, I bet you missed it.
Thanks for posting mrg. I'll remember the lavender advice. I've got an essential oil rollerball thing that might help me get off to sleep more easily.
My back's been playing up a bit today too (must be coming out in sympathy ww). I'm not sure if it's the walking. I think it's just muscle ache where I'm not used to exercise.
Belated good wishes for your birthday mooloo but sorry to hear you were too poorly to really enjoy it.:( You'll have to plan a celebration for when you're feeling better.
The weather's been glorious here again today. It was so hot that I had to move into the shade.:D Sorry to hear it's wet with you pod. What's it like with everyone else? I think the weather's doing a bit of a north/south divide.
I did all the fabbing things planned for today but instead of using the Holiday Skin after my shower I managed to top up outdoors. I look sooo much better with a bit of colour plus it lightens my hair a bit. If I can put off having my highlights done for a few weeks that'll save me a few pounds.
Thought of you tonight ww as Phil and Kirsty were in your neck of the woods.
Sleep well all.0 -
Where were they maman? Interested now (or nosey!).
The sun is out again and I've been awake since 6am but stayed in bed reading my book - only about 70 pages to go and I want to know what happens now.
Been thinking about how some of us here are struggling a little bit this week with aches and pains, anxiety and worries. I think we should try to find the positives if we can and so ask you.....
What are your little victories today?
They can be as small as not eating that cake, managing to do the pile of ironing or just feeling a teeny bit brighter.
I'll start us off...
My little victories for today are...- my back is a lot better, still not right but manageable
- the sun is out
- I'm glad to wake up in my own house with the peace and quiet that it holds
Hope everyone has a good day. x
ETA - just back from the dog walk in the park and another little victory - after 5 mins walking my back felt ok and I was wearing trainers and trackies (very glam!) and had my ipod so thought I'd give the Couch to 5K run a go and did it! Its definitely getting easier, felt like I could do some more when it ended.:j0 -
I recorded the Horizon thing, I was too sleepy to be able to watch it last night and be able to pay attention! Hopefully I will get a chance to watch it later today. I love the little victories idea! I will report back later with my little victories for today!
it might help me focus on the positive.
I ran out of time to write everything I wanted to yesterday, I had a good day Sunday and yesterday. I think catching up on some sleep really helped and also getting some sunshine! Went to a party on sun and there was live music and I probably had a bit more of the punch than I should have but I had a good time! Yesterday after work I went to the seafront with my family and their dog and sat on the sea wall in the sunshine which was nice (but it was so hot and busy!).
Feeling quite cheerful this morning so lets hope everyone has a good day.Hugs to you all!
