One of the biggest problems it that the "when is it going to be fixed" type question sometimes just cannot be answered with any accuracy.
I work for the railway and the line is closed because of a fatality. Police, undertaker, ambulance crews and sometimes fire brigade are in attendance. Some one bowls along "whens the line going to reopen" sorry I don't know "why don't you know", because the emergency services are in attendance. "oh you're very helpful aren't you", comes back the sarcastic voice.
The trouble is some people just don't understand that sometimes it simply is not possible to give an expected time/date. Which then leads to the whinging they aren't telling us nothing/totally useless/unhelpful quotes we then read and hear on websites and news.
Of course over time you get the news that things are fixed, or in my case the people are now clearing the line, then it is possible to start giving estimations.
I don't think it unreasonable at all, that someone sat at a desk in a branch, wouldn't be able to say yes by Monday 11:36 and 20 secs all the problems will be fixed, sadly too many people expect just that.0 -

To be fair, they are saying it's fixed, and all I need is an estimate of when the transfer system will be available again. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect them to have some idea if the only problem they have is a backlog, the proportions of which they must surely know.0 -

You are 100% right in that it is impossible to say when the system will be back up.
But the example you give of a 'jumper' going under a train is not comparable with a failure of a software upgrade leading to the collapse of a large banking system.

My problem is that I gave a cheque to someone on Friday for £500 written on my Nat West Current Account. I have a balance of £100 in the account and a balance of £3,000 in my E Saver account. Every time I try to move money over to cover this payment the system wont allow it, although I can see my balances.
I do have a overdraft that I have never used which will cover this payment,
so
should I just keep trying and not worry, and if my account goes into overdraft then claim any Interest back, or should a pay in cash on Monday into my Current account to cover this cheque?0 -

Personally I wouldn't worry too much about it. Do you think that they paid the cheque in on Friday anyway? If you have funds to cover it via your overdraft facility you are covered anyway and that would avoid any embarrassment. For those of you who are having trouble transfering money between 2 natwest accounts with online banking, try the telephone banking if you are an actionline customer.
I couldn't do any transfers online yesterday but managed twice with telephone banking. Call the actionline number which is impossible to find anywhere it seems! (0871 9891476) there will be a message saying to call back but ignore that. when you get to the main menu after all the talking press one for transfers etc and do it that way. It's a bit of hassle as you need account numbers etc but I just had my internet banking open with all my account info there. It worked for me and when I checked back online the balances had changed so maybe it is just online banking transfers that are having the problem? Give it a go anyway:)0
