It's a bit risky isn't it - I don't want to agree to go out for dinner with friends if I'm not able to pay the bill at the end! Will end up washing dishes for my supper :rotfl:

Will go and try to draw out cash and see what happens. Hope it gets sorted for all of us soon.

If you can make it into your branch today they will be able to check there internal daily Bacs reports. If it is showing you should be able to withdraw some. I do think it depends on the branch but that is what was happening in my branch yesterday.

I can make it in this afternoon, thank you. I was told on the phone they cannot acces anybody's accounts so won't have proof of what goes into my bank? This is just a big nightmare and has been a wake up call for me to save more and stock up more.

Let us know how it goes! See thats the thing, they make it sound like the money is there but just not showing up. If that was the case then surely we could all go and withdraw the money that is in there.

Still problems with Natwest or should i say RBS i run a company cannot pay salaries. This is far greater than just a glitch Media are not seeing the true grief this is causing. There will be a lot od small companies who are going to be in dier straights if this is not fixed urgently.

    Steve

I believe the media are seeing it, but this issue is being played down because it gives little taste of what it would be like if anything serious happened to a bank (e.g. go bust).
They don't want to panic people into taking their money out of banks, money that they don't have available anyway, as I expect a lot is being invested. It could have devastating effects on the economy.
Otherwise I can't see why media are not expliting this BIG news opportunities, mums who can't feed their babies, bosses who can't pay their staff..

I really feel for those people who are experiencing hardship, I don't bank with them luckily, but it could have been any bank I suppose.

Do you have your payment letter that states when you get paid your tax credits? Or statements showing the regular payments? With any luck that would be enough to convince the bank staff you should have the money in there.

Nobodys accounts can accessed for anything but tax credits, wages etc can be seen on an internal report, trust me I was doing this yesterday for people. If it was a credit from yesterday they will NOT be able to see it on todays report. As I said it does depend on the branch, telephone banking will not know. Go to your branch :)

Thank you. I will do. Although I am hoping it will be fixed by then. I don't have any letters. The last letter was over a year ago because I am still waiting for my new tax credit award to come through and we lost that when we moved in February. I do have a printed off bank statement though to bring them and hopefully they will be able to see anyway.

What number are people using to ring them? I've phoned 2 different numbers now only to get the same automated message telling me to ring back this afternoon or go into branch if urgent.

Strange. I closed mine over the phone.

Savings accounts can be closed over the phone at the advisors discretion however that policy does not apply to current or business accounts.

They wont need that just your debit card and maybe take some id with you like passport or driving license as the chip and pin machines are also being temperamental. No promises by the way its just what my branch and others in the area were doing yesterday :)
