Hello not been following the NatWest/RBS problems too closely as don't bank with them but just sent my friend some money and her bank is NatWest didn't even think about it till after I clicked send. Is it fixed now? Tried a couple of google searches but was inconclusive so thought I'd ask here

    TIA

No, I wouldn't say it's fixed at all, I know others are waiting for lots of payments to go in or out of account.

I paid a cheque in last week and am still waiting for it to show on my account. When you ring up the number, you just feel like banging your head off a brick wall, they are no help whatsoever.

RBS account fine (and always appeared so) but text balance alerts not working.

On the one hand I could understand why, on the other hand just when they might be useful...
  • Does anyone know how the backlog of transactions is actually being applied to accounts? My Ulster Bank account is showing a few mixed up updates - mostly debit ones - from the week of 25 June -but pay due in on 21 June has still not appeared...one step forward and two steps back every day it would seem.

And just a rant - Paul Lewis just on BBC Breakfast - on to talk about Ulster Bank problem - what was the FIRST thing he talked about? ... a few RBS/Natwest personal loan payments being taken from accounts twice - some poor customer who is down a couple of hundred while we've had NO MONEY for weeks!! Northern Ireland customers at the back of the queue - again...

Since last September our same-branch NatWest cheques have no longer been added to the available balance by the following day. I knew about it a little ahead of time as I'd made some reference to it and one of the NW posters said it would be changing then: I was hoping they might be mistaken, but sadly not! :( They were called "house cheques" apparently. They now take the same length of time to show up in the available balance as any other non-NatWest cheques we bank.

That's not been the case for me, all NatWest cheques I've paid in have cleared quicker than the normal 3-4 day cycle.

The large NW cheque I paid in Tuesday afternoon appeared as a credit the account balance on Wednesday, and is showing as cleared funds today, Thursday. The last one from the same source was paid in earlier in the day and was cleared by the next day, but I'm happy.

FWIW, the teller told me on Tuesday that cheques are clearing as normal, in 3 days.

There is a delay on cheques. This is because when the bank takes your cheque it goes off to a voucher processing centre that evening to actually be processed. In normal circumstances this is done over night and the credit will appear the next day. Due to the backlog the work is all being processed a day behind, although they are 90% caught up now.
Secondly, the clearing cycle for checks is 7 working days. It shows up on your account on day 2 and earns interest if applicable on day 3. On day 5 you may draw against the funds, it isn't however clear until day 7. If between 5 and 7 you draw on one funds and the cheque was to bounce you could possibly go over your limit or be out of pocket.
To answer an earlier question they did used to clear earlier under the old house cheque rules. This means a cheque presented at the same sort ode it was written from cashed overnight, this was taken away approx 2 years ago.
Branches are not experiencing telephony issues, but natwest does goes through to a call centre where as RBS are direct to the actual branch.

The funds aren't clear. They are able to be drawn upon but are still liable to bounce if this was a possibility, which is why although tempting you should not draw against funds Neil the 7th working day

They are being applied in batch runs. The "work" has been processed it just needs to be run through the system in date order. If as an ulster customer you are stuck, you can use your card or your cheque book to withdraw funds from a natwest or rbs branch if needs be.

Nope, Just a single cheque. Still not shown up yet...

I should've just paid into another bank just to save me the hassle of checking.

The delay in the mixed deposits is because a voucher is created for the cash instead of being credited immediately. To avoid this issue please pay in cash and cheques separate if you needs the cash element to show immediately to draw on the funds.
