I'm in the same boat. Not been able to access my accounts for a week, which are showing overdrawn despite having paid cheques in. I've just called NatWest to find out when they think things will be put right and it was like banging my head on a wall. My concern just wasn't addressed and I was simply told they don't have any information to give. I feel abandoned and my patience has run out. I'll be moving my business elsewhere.

Still not right balances showing today. Standing order still not taken out, despite being taken out early leaving us overdrawn, then being put back. Had to manually transfer money online so bills could be paid. Was a bit wary incase it just disappeared again!
I have an appointment for a review at the bank today. I'm going to cancel as in my past experience it's just been a hard sell exercise - and right now i'm not in the mood for it.

Did anyone have trouble paying with a Natwest debit card yesterday? I tried twice yesterday and it was declined on both ocassions even though there was money in the account.

oh hellfire - i work for the NHS, pay due thursday and Im in big trouble if it doesnt (I dont bank with NatWest) If anyone reading this works for the NHS and has been paid today (preferably into a non RBS-Group account, I bank with Barclays) can you put my mind at rest please??? I doubt payroll will be able to help me tomorrow....

My DS works for the NHS and his wages went into Barclays on Monday with no problem.

  • Still can't use either of my debit cards, off to open an account elsewhere today.

Completely fed up, they've been unhelpful to me throughout and in branch, they'll only help those with Natwest credit cards. Some of us don't have that luxury or option and some of us don't want a credit card yet we still need access to money held in our Natwest accounts.

Probably not however its at there discretion to whether they wish to stay or go.. Many will probably say that they will but possibly wont be in a position to do so etc.

A very good point that many people won't be able to pass credit checks etc to get an account elsewhere.

I understand that the overall quality of Natwest's current account book is poorer than that of most other banks (primarily due to their strategy in acquisition of accounts - provide 0% interest and nothing great in terms of customer service, and you get the lower quality customers).

However, the problems of the last week are only going to exacerbate the problem - many of the 'good' customers will open accounts elsewhere, meaning Natwest get left with those customers that no one else wants.

Barclays and co-op both do special accounts for those with low/poor credit score and both have been rated very highly on this website. You just need to take ID into a branch.

I don't do creditcards but I've found my branch to be very helpful-allowing me to draw on regular expected funds before they appeared this week.

It does seem Nat West branches vary considerably
