I tried to pay for purchases in two supermarkets tonight . Card declined . :o

I've paid bills and made a few purchases this evening, everything gone through fine.

  • No one else looked at this? Could this be to do with it?

I've been unaffected at the moment, but I am due to get paid on Friday and am slightly worried that this won't be resolved.

The only way to access my cash now is from a Nat West machine ( 12 miles round trip ) That's if it's still in my account tomorrow .

Can you withdraw funds from the Post Office? Im just presuming that you may live nearer to a Post Office ;-)

(Just realised you may be a basic account holder)

No, I don't think it is. I believe the reports of an IT failure. The patterns of transactions being credited and debited and credited again tie in with that.

If it was fraud on a grand scale, internet banking would not be available to anyone.

Is this because you have a Step/Basic account, which of course allowed access to any ATM until they changed the rules last year? If so I would be less than impressed if I was you at the moment. I can't really suggest anything (unless you have an RBS/Tesco ATM nearer as you can use those) but hope things work properly in the morning for you.

Yes exactly Banker . Thanks for that . I have the basic step account through choice although Nat West have gone out & out to try to persuade me to " upgrade " in the last few months. It's never been a problem as normally I use the card for cash back .

A lot of people who have that account won't have it through choice though and I bet a fair few will be elderly, disabled or absolutely on the breadline and not able to afford a bus fare. I seriously hope for everyone's sake your declined card tonight was a short 'blip' in the system and we'll all be back to normal by the morning.
  • Still no sign of my wages yet

They were in my RBS account on Friday but gone on Saturday with no sign of them since. Can't believe they have the cheek to say they've worked through the transaction backlog!

Same here, wages went in on Friday, able to use debit card Friday and Saturday, and then on Sunday they had gone , only realised nothing in my account when I went to pay for something online and my card was declined:mad:, now I am overdrawn as my D/Ds & S/Os have come out of my account!
