While my balance appears to be correct, and the account summary shows various things that apparently happened Friday (!! Really? Are they sure?), my statements show nothing between the 20th and today. So not entirely fixed then heh.

They used to advertise that they would never close the last branch anywhere, but it turned out that they had, so they were made to stop advertising that.

Will they now have to stop advertising "helpful banking"?

Saw online a conspiracy theory about this, say RBS group had liquidity issues or some trader made a big loss. Gov say we can't let them fail but we don't have cash to bail out again. What about a "fake" glitch that means they can use all those "credits" due into accounts to make short term investments world wide to claw back the cash?

Sounds far fetched to me but not impossible, most peoples credits have left the senders accounts just not landed in the recieving accounts at RBS/NW but presumably got as far as RBS/NW holding accounts.

Also the theory is this is why the media seem to be playing this down?

    Hey Ali,

As I was listening to the news about a problem with a Natwest system iupdate, I thought to myself what if they planned this to have a few days with everyone's money especially as there was a recent downgrade of UK banks.

It will all be forgotten in a few weeks and we will probably never know the truth.

If you count being on the front pages of the newspapers and in the top three stories in all news bulletins over the weekend as 'playing this down' then so be it. I certainly don't.

The government might not have the money, but the BoE certainly do.

If access to cash had been stopped then yes, but if you had enough money in your account before the problems then it's been business as usual in terms of withdrawing cash and making card payments.

Most of the problems have been for those people without a buffer zone who were awaiting payments that weren't showing up.

Conspiracy theories are called that for a reason. They're usually nothing but a theory put out by people who choose not to believe what they're told, or mischievously cause alarm intentionally.

Back to planet earth, and all appears to be well for me this moring. All debits and credits where they should be and online payments/transfers working as normal. Hope it all works out well for those who are still experiencing problems :-)

It seems that Streamline (as customers of RBS/NATWEST) are having major problems too. I was expecting transactions to credit my HSBS Business acoount today but nothing went in. I have been on to Streanline and they explained that as customers of Natwest they are badly affected too. This may pose cashflow problems to us smaller businesses

    Sounds total nonsense to me!

As Cell states in their post the media are hardly playing this problem down, in fact quite the opposite!

just checked Ulster Bank as im waiting for a two transfers from Wednesday that should have been in my account, one payment from Thursday and two payments which are normally in Saturday and still nothing (what the f**k are they doing) this has been over 5 days now this is a joke now!!!

Same here mate..It's getting beyond a joke now.I was expecting my phone/bband to be cut off as I've not been able to pay the bill due on 18th,I got a text saying the payment hadn't gone thru & to pay to keep using the service but it's still on. (I pay by debit card, not direct debit)
Does anyone know if companies are giving customers a little leeway because of this RBS fubar?...
  • I can't use either of my visa debit cards, off to the branch shortly to retrieve my money!
