I'm due to get tax credits & Carer's Allowance paid into my HSBC a/c on Monday. PLEASE tell me that Tax Credits & Carer's Allowance don't use Nat west. If they do, we're in serious bother. My wages from Next are due on Tuesday, so if they don't go in, DD's won't go out and I'll get bank charges and can't be doing with the hassle of trying to get markers removed from my credit file.

I'm pretty sure there's no problem with these payments going into other banks.

My take on the "it's fixed" -vs- "no it's not" debate.

I believe the technical issues have been resolved, as they say, and the problem now is the backlog which they're working their socks off to get through. In that sense, the system is fixed.

The reason that transfers and payments out are still not possible could be because until the backlog is fully cleared you will probably still see duff information about your account. We know already that transactions have been appearing and then disappearing again, with balances changing, and I've had that myself too.

Think about it. If we're able to make transfers and payments now, but many of us base that purely on the summary balances and transactions showing at the time (which may or still may NOT be up to date), how many might inadvertently make payments where there were in reality not enough funds to cover them?

But if this is anything approaching the reason for it, they should have a prominent notice up saying that payments and transfers are not possible at this time.

Over the weekend we're now in what's normally a NatWest "limbo land" when (from early Saturday morning) the balances and transactions shown are in fact for the next working day -- the following Monday.

We know this doesn't apply this weekend however, and my guess is they could be desperately trying to clear the backlog by the end of Sunday and then possibly hoping to do an overnight processing ready for Monday -- these start in the early hours and are normally completed by about 7.30/8. If this can't be achieved then unfortunately they'll have to carry on ploughing through, and the next opportunity would be Monday night's run. I'm sure they'll be hoping to avoid leaving it as long as that, but we are talking about millions of transactions to catch up with.

At least what we see by Monday might reflect our account situations a little more accurately than we're seeing now, but it still may not be completely up to date.

So you rely on a bank loophole to get money two days early? Hate to see it when they shut it off.

Read this thread people who are claiming benefits are demanding "their" money.

What do people on benefits have to do with the price of fish? It's their money they are entitled to it, just as much as my salary which I'm equally entitled to. When a bank says I cannot have my money, naturally I get upset benefits or no benefits.

As do thousands of others including those in work...AND I think you'll find that the are a lot of people on this thread moaning about not being able to get hundreds of pounds that was payed in last weekk or before.
And some of the posters are right, you really are a spiteful troll aren't you...

Thats good I thought they may have wanted proof from the TP that they will not refund the charges first. :)

I'm not saying if they will refund them or not (clearly that's not my decision).

Each case will be looked at on it's merits.

What is your interest in this thread other than benefit bashing? Do you have an account with NatWest? If not then what are you doing posting in this thread?

You are a troll, a wind up merchant.

cate, if you don't get money paid in, then cancel your dd's so you don't get charged. not great, but necessary maybe

I agree. When all this started and DH wages weren't paid in, first contact the bank (if it's not NW!), cancel your direct debits, and then contact those companies who you pay by this method to tell them.
I have found they are ok, as long as you make arrangements to pay as soon as the money is sorted and is in your account.

Most larger companies are open at the weekend, or ring first thing on Monday morning to sort out.

On another note, I wish some of the posters on here were not so quick to judge. The majority of the posters on this thread are genuinely affected by this awful situation.
I am affected - luckily I still have some old style "freezer surprises", and have a little bit of money to last, DH has 1/2 tank of petrol - we will walk to work/shops. Not everyone is so lucky to be in this situation and not everyone has family/friends to call on or back up savings to rely on.

Ok Rant over......;) For now.... ;)

  • I reckon it will be at the least Tuesday before it starts improving as on Monday it's not quite normal banking as such hence why we get paid on a Saturday ( and not because of a loophole *yawn*).

I really feel for those who are suffering especially disabled, elderly and those on benefits it must be very worrying. After reading about the IT problems that may have caused this is does make me wonder whether to change or at least have two different banks as back up is very much needed with the problem of new technology yet staff cuts in IT it's a very bad mix and I hope this makes the high up banking members sit and think about customers instead of there fatcat bank accounts.
