There are many, many posts on here about payments being taken from stopped cards. It IS possible. Just because you haven't experienced this doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Staff in disputes departments spend many hours dealing with these payments, please accept what experienced posters are saying.0 -

That's a bold (excuse the pun) statement you have made.
How can you possibly know that?
because when i pay for my vonage (which only accepts payments by using the long number on my card) they fail, if i have a new card and i have to re-enter even when topping my 02 phone if i have a new card, i can't use last 4 number's on my card i have to re-enter whole card number, expire date and last 3 number's on back of card.
You stated that no-one else's account had ever been debited after the card had been stopped.
I asked you how you could possibly speak with such authority.
You then respond with some blurb about vonage and O2.
I won't bother asking you again, it's not worth it.0 -

Perhaps Einstein there has been using someone else's card to top up her vonage and 02 and it didn't work, so there's her proof.:rotfl:0 -

When your "sis" in law has next finished cleaning the branch bogs, get her to speak to one of the real bank employees and ask them what they think.0 -

This just sums up your "experience". Standing orders have nothing to do with cards.
Now it must be time for mummy to put you to bed, so you toddle off while the adults talk sensibly.0 -

Not being funny here... But just where in a bank
A standing order is linked to the sort code & account number.... NOT the 16 digit debit card number..:o
So stopping your card has no effect on a S/O at all....
I once had a spat with someone else who claimed they worked in a bank and knew more about disputes and fraud than I did.....
We then found out that he worked in the mail room, and his experience was only having looked at some mail being sent in :rotfl:
He soon scuttled off back under the stone he came from.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -

natwest, i don't need to hide under any stone well i know my vonage uses my long number to debit my account like i said if i cancel the card they are unable to debit my card...what i will say is good luck for everyone luckily my bank barclays stopped them from having access to my card. :T0
