I'm amazed that some people take such careful notice of who is parking where, then stand around to watch the driver & passengers' physical state and whether a BB is on display or not - I barely notice such things and certainly wouldn't think it any of my business to pass comment if I did! These folk must have lives dull beyond our comprehension!
I used to work at a supermarket where they would make tannoy announcements asking driver of [reg no.] parked in the disabled space to either display their BB or move their car. But that was to shift the chancers out of the BB spaces, not to hassle genuine users!Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.0 -
Simple answer when someone say's you don't look disabled is to say
"YOU DON'T LOOK STUPID".0 -

OH had this he spent most of his late teens in a wheelchair following a football injury that was mis-diagonised (the failed to not that his hip had come out of place and thought he had damaged a muscle)
He had to have painful operations and now had thick scars on both legs and needs a hip replacement at 29.
He had a blue badge for a number of years (which has now expired) we were in our local town and parked up the old couple in the bay next to us started screaming at him for being a scrounger that he was a waste of space and a criminal and how they were going to report him.
We calmly explained the situation and asked if they would like him to drop his trousers and show them the scars from where the NHS had spent half a million rebuilding his legs so he could walk again. They called us disgusting and walked away

its nobodys business but yours. doesnt matter if your disability is visible or not vigilantism is wrong. sadly in my experience half of them complaining are folk with disabilities themselves "i deserve that more than you" that should know better and are only disgracing themselves and proving otherwise by acting like that.
people checking blue badges in the car window is the other one thats laughable, if they can manage to go round counting they dshould leave the spaces for folk who need them.0 -
To the Op, it may also have had something to do with the fact that the alleged Disabled Driving Association 'Mobilise' are currently holding their annual 'BayWatch' survey between 11th and 24th June.
See: http://www.disabledmotoring.org/baywatch/
Unfortunately some people (who probably have nothing better to do) think they become 'disabled car parking police' during the Baywatch period and seem to challenge each and everyone parking in parking bays (or at least around here they do).
I had some old doddery git yesterday (armed with his clipboard) more or less run over to my car when I pulled into a disabled bay at Tesco and demanded to see my blue badge. I politely told him he had no authority to see my badge to which his reply was he was from 'Baywatch' and had every right to ask to see blue badges!!
I advised him otherwise, displayed my badge in the car and unloaded my powerchair using the electric hoist. The bloke then went on about young people should not have motability cars (I pointed out I own my car which he didn't like). Also as I have a prosthetic left leg and prosthetic right foot which makes me appear 'normal' when just standing, he accused me of being a benefits cheat!. In the end I just told him to go forth and multiply!!
He was however still demanding to see peoples badges when I returned some 50 minutes later!!!
