    I'm currently using lidl's clumping grit litter - £1.79 for 10kg.

People are saying that wood goes further.

How long does that bag last you? GR has done the most litter testing so she can vouch for wood litter. At least with Zooplus it is delivered free, I guess you have to get a bus to and from Lidl which will add into the cost considerably.

I always have 2 litter trays on the go, upstairs and downstairs, so i have 2 bags open at once. 2 bags'll last over a week.

I walk to lidl with my shopping trolley.

The bags are heavy and the hill is steep!

I will also vouch for wood lasting longer than clumping / clay type ones.

If you scoop out the soiled bits (I use nappy bags to do this - 27p for 300), and just add a little fresh on top, it is really economical to use.

Gettingready's "the real cost of pets" thread has a trial of Oko, which, although it tracks a bit, a bag has lasted for weeks!

ETA from GRs trial 40Litres costs around £24 (Zoo+ so will get free delivery) and lasts around 2 months

So £12 / month with 4 resident cats and another 2 for the odd visit here & there isn't bad - note to self you really must buy a bag of this stuff & give it a try!

    That does sound good!

I suppose the initial cost has put me off and thinking you don't get much weight wise in a bag (compared to lidl).

But if it lasts longer then its more economical.

I use value nappy sacks too!

    Hi Dalek

Sorry to hear times have got so tough. If it helps in anyway I am in West Yorkshire and have cat food spare as my cat sadly passed away last week. . More than willing to send it onto you if it helps. It's a mix of brands as our cat was very fussy - there are about 23 wet pouches plus a nearly full small bag of dry (our cat ate both). We also have a bag of cat tray liners which we bought new the week before she died. Let me know if you want them and I'll make arrangements to get them to you.

Try your local Cats Protection as they might be able to help you with food on a short term basis. when I fostered cats for them they would rather help the owner than take a cat into their care. worth asking.

I did think about this, having suggested it on a previous thread. I don't think it is in anyone's interests for cats in situations like this to be ending up in rescue, far better for the charity to help out with food and keep the cat in it's happy home. My previous suggestion was for a poster to volunteer to help out at the rescue in lieu of payment....an enjoyable rewarding thing to do as well.

Why don't you have a word with your landlord, he may allow you to take in a lodger
