Following on from BJV's post, I always fed my dogs a mixture of dry, and wet food, and it did go a long way.
I never used to mix it just used to put whatever chopped meat on top. Usually value meat (chicken, mince, steak), or a tin such as cesar, butchers tripe. I've heard cats like theirs in separate bowls.New forum. New sig. Yes I still need to lose 2 stone!0 -
£4 a week - heck - yes i could afford that.
I do need to buy cat litter as well though.
I did mention earlier on in this thread that my little feller costs me a quid a week in litter, so if my boy costs me two quid a week in food and litter I can't see why your two wouldn't cost you four quid.
I only ever completely change the litter in his tray once a week, although each day I remove the waste and top up with a little more clean litter. But then I use the Lidl clay-based clumping stuff, so this isn't difficult for me.0 -

I did exactly the same with our old cat Charlie she was a couple of months under 20 when she died and Jazz our black lab was 16. In fact with Jazz she would have what ever we had for dinner with a few biscuits.Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0 -

For cats the school of thought is that you shouldn't mix dry food into wet; they should always be fed them in separate bowls. Apparently if you mix the two then the cat will not feel as thirsty because the dry food is disguised in the wet food and the lack of extra fluid intake can lead to UTI / kidney problems.:hello:0 -
OP if you can get to Manchester I can give you some wet cat food from our kitten's trial and error days. I have a lot of Bozita, so PM me if you can collect it.0

I don't have personal experience of this.....but!!
Have you thought about feeding them raw? I know that a lot of people do that and some of them get food "free" from a local butchers?
Would be great and more of a long term plan if you could come to some sort of an arrangement with them?"Things can only get better.................c/o D:Ream #The 90's"

I think they say that you cant post the same 'wanted' again within a 2 week period, but there are normally several different groups around bordering areas so you could just rotate every week and keep the same 'wanted' up and running so people get to see it again and again.
I know someone else mentioned raw feeding on butchers scraps...it's easier for dogs than cats as cats have quite specific nutritional needs. Also, I don't know how much good stuff butchers give away in these hard times...saying that I just dropped off a bag or two of offcuts and marrow bones at GR's place!
You could look into DAF minces ( Durham Animal Feeds ), see if there is a local supplier. Their pet minces work out pretty darn cheap and would balance out a mainly dry diet somewhat.
Oh...and if you are on outskirts of town into country, ask around any farmers shooting rabbit etc on farmland, great cat food free!0 -

Not very MSE!
Eat the rabbit yourself and spend what you save on the cats!0
