    You're most welcome ;)

Strange, I don't remember expressing any thanks in your direction ;)

For those who are worried, don't. I was one of those who apparently 'look terrible' in a strapless dress. I didn't. I looked hot, hot, hot. Just ask my husband....
You will look amazing, don't worry about what others say, some people can't help but criticise.

Not a huge fan of strapless dresses, for no other reason than I think they are a bit revealing for religious weddings - I also feel the same about mini dresses etc in church! I guess teamed with a jacket/bolero they look nice but generally I'm of the old school where strapless dresses belong best at cocktail parties and glamorous balls/dances.

I thought Kate M's dress was wonderful - very very pretty but also modest. I really personally feel Brides look better in sleeves & skirts to the knee, but then I feel that about most social occasions!

edited to add: I do feel the current trend of strapless & long is simply over supply of unimaginative Chinese-made dresses & uninspired design - I find them deeply unappealing and am having a pale pink lace cocktail length sleeved dress made for my wedding!
  • You're absolutely right, joolzred.
Strapless dresses are simply easiest to make. That's why they dominate in the shops. And because of that, the shopkeepers are trying to convince every girl she looks lovely in it - just to get rid of the stock...
I agree Kate's dress was beautiful - classy and elegant, nothing like those overdone dresses we usually see!
As for the church - I also think they are too revealing. Bolero helps the modesty, but usually looks horrible - I have seen many brides looking like they had a massive hump on their backs.
All in all, why not go for any other, more flattering style?

  • I guess you'd only care about revealing too much in church if you cared about religion...and since when were shoulders rude anyway?

I probably wouldn't go strapless but only because I like to be a bit different, I'd probably head for Vivien of Holloway :)

And why exactly would you get married in a church if you didn't care about religion...?
It's just a matter of respect and class. As I said, Kate Middleton managed to look absolutely beautiful in her modest, not revealing dress.

I think the problem lies with the bridal manufacturers. In every bridal shop I went to, 90% of their dresses were strapless & they all said that was because no-one was making dresses with sleeves. I really, really, did not want a strapless dress, but I have ended up with one and it does fit very nicely. I am wearing a lace bolero to cover my arms though!

I had a similar problem - majority of the dresses in the shops were strapless.
Finally I bought a lovely dress from a Polish designer, which had sleeves and the additional benefit of being way cheaper then Maggie Sottero or Jesus Peiro :P I discovered, that local designers are offering a bigger and more interesting selection than the worldwide known ones.

Because your OH to be is religious? Or (and I think this is horribly hypocritical and cannot condone it!!) you're getting married in a church because it's pretty?

Strapless dresses can be classy, I just don't understand why all of a sudden shoulders appear to be rude and disrespectful...? :rotfl:though again I'm a great fan of boleros.

Kate M did look very nice...but the dress was in the style of someone about 20 years older than she is. I'd have dressed her more like her bridesmaid and put Pippa in something else :)

Phew, not me just thinking this then! I think Kate Middleton looked beautiful in her dress, and obviously she had to have that certain "classical" look, but personally I wouldn't wear a dress like that unless I was my mum's age.
