I normally wax but I have treated myself to an epilator. Any suggestions on the best time to use it. ie before or after a shower and does it hurt?

I was hoping that as I've waxed for nearly twenty years this wasn't going to hurt. Waxing weakens the hair and sometimes I can just pull them out with my fingers.

If your hair is course maybe just plucking (no pun intended) up the courage to get your bikini line waxed. It will last alot longer and gets less painful each time you go. Shaving stengthens the hair as you only chop the top off and makes the hair courser and the root remains strong.

    Waxing doesn't suit everybody. :)

I bought an Epilator and only used it once, boy was it painfull. Then I moved onto home waxing and that was dreadfully painful and I couldn't remove the wax of all off my legs. I have been having my legs professionally waxed for 7 years now and it isn't as painful as doing it at home. Had mine done again today (4 times a year now) and was only in for 15 minutes. Look like a plucked chicken for a couple of hours but by tomorrow they will be back to normal colour plus lovely and smooth until December.

Bikini line!! Pah! No problem since I had IPL. It was expensive but I haven't needed to wax for about a year now :D I was being waxed every 3/4 weeks. Intense Pulse Light kills the hair folicle. I have a small amount of regrowth now so I'll go back for another session. I've had 5 so far.

I would certainly recommend it (if you can afford it) - I think I paid around £350..ish.

  • What size of area do you get for that money petal?

Im seriously considering this as when I wax ,the hairs are coming through again within 2 weeks!! Drives me bananas but have read somewhere that this treatment can stop you from tanning as normal?? cant remember where i read it

  • I use intuiation razors on legs and under arms but the bit round the edge seems to wear out one sided so they don't last too long so going off these.

I've been using that new veet razorless aerosol on my legs and find it ok. I usually do mine about every 2 weeks (it's seems as I get older the less hairer I appear to be!) LOL

Bikini line I just use cream as I hate it when the hairs grow back in after shaving and get caught in your undies then you feel like scratching like crazy and it always seems to be when you're in public :o

Has anyone tried those 'shaving mitts'? I use them occasionly and I find them to be very good. They are a bit like sandpaper and you lightly rub in circular movements over your legs and are reusable for quite a few times. It does take a bit of time to do tho. One of the bonuses of using these is that you get exfoliated at the same time  Your legs are really smooth and it doesn't hurt at all, I don't think it would replace shaving (well it might if you keep up to it :o ) but not good for under arm nor bikini area!

  • I shave my legs as I find it convenient, epilators are too painful for me! I wax my bikini line and when I was earning good money used to get a full leg and bikini wax done once a month.

If you have fair skin and dark hair, laser hair removal is also an option. It's pricey, but as you only need 5 or so treatments to permanently get rid of the majority of the hairs, it works out a little bit more cost effective than paying for waxing every 4 weeks or so. (It does hurt though, and due to the price and time it takes for a treatment, it's probably only an option for smaller areas - tried underarm and bikini very successfully).

    Kantankrus Mare (like it!)

I just got my bikin line done (although I have a brazilian)...so it was quite a big area  (I'm v hairy!)

I enquired about having my armpits done but they said it would be about £300 EACH!! So still shaving those!

I've tried Veet creams and all that sort of stuff but it doesn't remove any hair....it just turns it frizzy! :rotfl:

I shave the pits and legs but use veet mouse on bikini line, works best for me as I have very little time to myself and is cheap.
