Epilators only hurt at first. It's really more shock that pain, too! You just need to start off slowly so that you aren't getting too many plucks at a time! Don't go at it like an electric shaver til you are used to the sensation.
Trouble I find is that I think the epilator is breaking lots of hairs rather than plucking them.*** Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly ***
If I don't reply to you, I haven't looked back at the thread.....PM me0 -
I used one once! I was left with huge red lumps all over my legs is this normal??
Needless to say ive never wanted to repeat the experienceMake £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £600 -
My legs do look like plucked chickens straight after epilating them, but I leave them uncovered and it soon fades, within 20 minutes maybe? (I don't time it!
)
And while we're going for the hairiest-ever prize - last time but one that I went on a foreign holiday (the only time my legs are on show all the time) I had to shave my legs TWICE A DAY!!! Once in the morning, then again before we went out for dinner in the evening if I wanted to wear a skirt.
But......I started using my epilator about a year later, then another year after that I went on my next foreign holiday and was amazed (and very pleased!) to find I "only" needed to shave my legs every second day!

I'm a guy and I get my legs waxed about every 8 weeks....it was very sore the first time I got it done....but the lady/guy gives me one of those lolly pop sticks to bite....
Now its second nature.....and yes it is still a wee bit painful....but I think its more the "wait/thought" of the strip ripping the hair out.....rather that the actual hair coming out.0 -
I normally wax but I have treated myself to an epilator. Any suggestions on the best time to use it. ie before or after a shower and does it hurt?£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

Yep, it hurts Rikki! However, I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, one of the lovely side effects of which is excess body hair. On the bright side, its really only from my knees downwards that I look like a chimp
but I find the epilator is just a bit much and I still get ingrown hairs. It might not be as bad for you if your hair isnt as course as mine - and I've never tried the freezing attachment either.
I cant remember when the best time is to do it, whether its better after a bath/shower, though this makes sense as its what you should do for eyebrows.
Recently I bought one of those gadgets with the round discs like sandpaper that sand your hair away. Genius!! No more fiddly than epilating, no pain at all, and your hair does not grow back as quick as shaving. Replacement discs are a bit pricy but worth it.
Anyone else got one?

Well I got the epilator off Amazon that someone on MS posted about - £19.99, and have been using for about 2 weeks now.
I am actually quite surprised at the lack of pain - it is more like a sharp tickle as each hair gets yanked out - the toes twinge a bit tho - LOL.
I even attempted the sides of my bikini line quite successfully - couldn't go any further in than the pantyline though - YOW!!
Had a go at the armpits as well, but failed miserably here -just too painful for words. I did my top lip the other day as well - just to get rid of the fuzzies that are appearing now I'm getting older - sob!!!Noli nothis permittere te terere
