A Sudanese friend told me to use a mixture of 1 cup of sugar, 1/2 cup of water and a squeeze of lemon. let the sugar melt in the pan and let the mixture cool down. Then away you go... i found it very messy and sticky but did get rid of the hairs and was very cheap.

Aren't they painful though? I have just received my free wax samples from Veet but not been brave enough to try them so I can't imagine using an epilator.

I too was a wax virgin and had the Veet samples. How bad can it be I thought one saturday afternoon_pale_ OMG the first strip was painful, but then the wax wasn't quite as good on the next strip unless I pressed it down really hard. I only manage 5 attempts and I gave up. My legs were stingy and red for hours. Not for me - back to using OH razor :shhh: don't tell him :naughty:

How does this work? Do the ants then crawl all over you and eat the hairs :rotfl:

:rotfl: well i don't think it was supposed to happen but i did end up smelling like a sweet lemon.

I just smeared it on let it go hard abit, then peel it off. The hairs came off in the mixture. Afterwards i rinsed my legs to get rid of any remaining sticky stuff. Apparently, according to my Sudanese friend, this is what the Arabs do and they also like to be completely hair free everywhere except on their head [to do with cleanliness rules in Islam] as i said apparently this is the case.....

Is it anything like sugaring? Which is like waxing for me. :o Painful.

Doesn't it hurt when you peel the sugar off?

yes it is like sugaring i think (not that i have ever done that)

..and it hurts LIKE HELL!!! [or if you are an idiot like me, you don't leave it long enough to cool down initially before smearing on your leg. It burns like hell and then hurts like hell when you do want to take it off!]

I have gone back to using a depilatory cream for hair removal.

I don't find it that painful. First time it is, but I have one with a massage bit on it, which reduces the pain.

That cream stuff never works on me

I don't bother with shaving gels etc. I keep a disposable razor in the shower and give them a quick whizz over under running water. Works for me and it's cheap!
Here I go again on my own....

I found the free strips hopeless, & managed to get loads of wax stuck on my leg, back to veet in a can or razoring for me!
