My sis says do it when you have a migraine as the pain distracts you from the migraine :rotfl:

I have to say, underarms hurts more than bikini - i think :o and DON'T go putting deo on straight afterwards - ouch!!!! ;)

And the more you do it, the less it seems to hurt.

I agree with your sis about the migraine!!! :D

I don't find the legs at all painful and bikini line is tolerable if trimmed a bit first  but there is no way I could ever do my underarms  I'm too scared to even try!!

Did my underarms for the first time a few nights ago (epilator)
Had to keep switching arms, wasn't very pleasant, but got it all done :)
Had a quick go at bikini line (mons? no thanks!) figured I'd put myself through enough and didn't do much.

I have a tiny yellow bruise there now, I can only assume there's a follicle in the middle of it!
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j
  • I epilate my underarms and it hurts less that doing my thighs. I had however had my underarms waxed a couple of times in the past so that might have helped.

I'd suggest shaving and letting a bit of stubble grow in then trying while it is fairly short. Hold your arm up to stretch the skin and just do it fast! You could always take a couple of painkillers the first few times same as you might for waxing.

On that basis, maybe I should poke myself in the eye before I start :rotfl:
  • The best way to get long lasting smoothness is to treat epilating a bit like waxing. Wait until you have a fair bit of growth and then go for it. Otherwise you will always have hairs at different growth stages so you will have some too short to catch and some growing through in the next few days.

The red bumps will reduce, it is a bit like the plucked chicken look you get after waxing. It is temporary and will be less bad each time in the future, but I find that if I want to go swimming or wear a skirt epilating the night before is best to allow the skin to recover.

You might find regrowth will reduce but I've had mine for years and whilst regrowth is slower than with shaving and less stubbly I still get the same amount. You may be lucky but no certainty!

I didn't get wipes with mine, if your epilator isn't grabbing and pulling out the hairs that are there then they are either too short or too slick so give it a few days and try it when you have showered and used a nongreasy showergel or soap with an exfoliating !!!!!! to ensure that there is no remaining body lotion. Do not put anything on your skin before epilating just dry it thoroughly.

In grown hairs are the bane of my life, I get them everywhere whether i remove hair or not irrespective of the type of hair removal I use. All you can do is exfoliate and use tweezers rather than picking. I've had them over an inch long in my leg :(
  • Hair removal is a very personal thing!

I know several people (it must be said blonde, fine haired people!) who swear by their epilators.

Personally I've tried several times and never got on with them. I find my skin rebels something chronic. I don't mean a slight rash, I mean bright red agonising soreness that lasts about a week - people tell me this phase passes with repeated use, but frankly I'm not willing to put up with it that long!
The first time I used one I also ended up with weird little brown spots that lasted several months - not sure what that was all about (maybe unrelated, I don't know).

I also found the whole process incredibly slow - getting my legs hair free seemed to take so much work compared to shaving or waxing that even if it weren't for the redness I'm not sure I could be bothered with it.

And it's painful. More painful than waxing (probably because it's more prolonged) - maybe I'm just a wuss but I doubt I could get used to that.

So I think my verdict is that it's not for everyone. My mixed meditteranean/ Celtic ancestry has left me with an unfortunate combination of very thick black hair and very pale sensitive skin  - after flirting with pretty much every type of hair removal short of laser treatment, I'm firmly convinced that I'll always go back to shaving!

This system is on QVC today at £115. I was tempted as I have been following threads on hair removal and the Boots system. It has now sold out, but has anyone heard of, or has, this Nono system. I would value your opinions.
  • I was considering buying and epilator mainly for use on my arms (I use hair removal cream at the mo) and was wondering if anyone could give me any recommendations.
I was looking at the following

I have an earlier version of the Satinelle . Mine came with a trainer head which is useful if you haven't used one before.

If you are planning on using an epilator on your underarms you will find it very painful the first time ( I did and I was used to waxing). The trainer head helps and you do get used to it
  • I have had the Braun Silk Epil Xelle Solo S5170 Epilator.
I brought it this year and was VERY disappointed. I found that it wasnt picking
up the hair, and I would have to go over the area again and again, which got quite painful. And I couldnt clean it.
    I brought a
Braun Silk Epil Xpressive Body and Face Epilator and Shaver.
A lot more pricey but graps the hairs, has several different attatchments, can be cleaned, and is rechargable HTH x
    :j:j:j Wooooo Hooooo :j:j:j
