    Hi,

I have been offered laser hair removal on my lower leg (up to just above knee) for half price at a local salon.

It's normally £1500 for 6 sessions but they said they'd do it for £750. I'm not sure if this is a good deal or not, it still seems like an awful lot of money but I have always had problems with my leg hair. If I shave it literally lasts about 6-8 hours before feeling spiky again and waxing/epilating lasts about a week so I feel like I'm constantly battling to keep it away. I also suffer from terrible ingrown hairs which apparently the laser will get rid of.

The laser they use is the Cutera Xeo Laser which apparently is the strongest permitted in the UK and works well on my dark skin and hair.

I would be grateful if anyone had any advice for me. I'm tempted to go ahead but being a MS want to make sure I get the best deal possible!:money:

Flippin' heck £1,500 for 6 sessions?? I would expect to buy the clinic for that!:rotfl:and £750 doesn't sound much better! My local salon charges £30 per session after the initial £60 consultation. I shoppped around and asked for recommendations from friends, family etc, maybe you could do that too?
  • Go to the skin clinc, Im currently using them at the moment and there lasers are fantasic- the best you can get. I noticed a huge difference after just one session.
They always have offers on too, plus the consultations are free.

There a proper Clinc with nurses and doctors- wouldn't go to a salon.
If you want it to work and more importantly to last you need to go somewhere like this.

If you would like any more information just ask, I highly recommend them!

I'm a bit confused because I'm told that the reason why some salons are cheaper is because the machines they use aren't as good and they don't produce the best results.

£30 per session seems amazingly cheap for 1/2 leg, I haven't seen it for much less than £100. IPL seems to be cheaper but is it any good?

Can any experts help me out with this??
  • I'm no expert but I did do alot of research into it before I got it done.

Yes £30 is very cheap- If it seems too good to be true???

Lots of salons advertise 'Laser' hair removal but its acually IPL which is NOT laser and is not as good as laser.
They are 'intense pluse light' machines which are generally alot less effective than actual lasers.
I also read that the majority or burns from 'laser' hair removal have been caused by IPL devices used by non-physicians.

Some people do have success with IPL however I decided for me that am better using my money to pay for laser which is almost guaranteed to work for most people as i'd get good/ lasting results.

Just make sure that wherever you go is registered with the Care Quality Commission. (It might have a certificate saying Healthcare Commission - the Healthcare Commission changed to the Care Quality Commission in April)

This is mandatory for anywhere offering Laser or IPL services.

The registration is only granted to places where the operators have been properly trained, are properly insured, and have proper proceedures in place for operating such machines.

If they're not - report them.

    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

I second this. I had my full leg, bikini and underarms done there about 3 years ago. I didn't opt for the 6 session reduced rate (because at the time you had to use them all within 12 months), so paid about £250 a session.

The best money I have ever spent on anything; no question. Far more effective than IPL offered in beauty salons. I did a lot of research before choosing Skin and know of unsuccessful cases with IPL. Will be offering it to my children as soon as they are old enough.

In terms of hair removal, I truly believe you get what you pay for.

I've looked into the Skn clinics and it seems like you got an exceptional deal, it's £275 per treatment for full leg alone which is probably the most expensive I've seen so far. I'm probably going to keep checking back for special offers as the current ones aren't really great for me.

It's great to get recommendations, thank you.
  • The treatment you'd get via a true laser would be far more effective than an IPL - therefor it'd be expensive initially but in the long run you'd save an awful lot. IPL just really isn't that effective at all so you'd need to be there getting treatment and paying more in the long run and still not come out with the results you would from laser.

Personally i'd save and fork out for the laser treatement. At least you have a much higher chance of it being effective. Imagine paying out a small fortune at a salon using IPL to find it's barely made a difference. You'd then have to fork out again to get it done properly via laser.

Yes do keep checking back, they may have something just before/ after Christmas?? They would do just the lower leg for you if thats all you wanted ( Prosume about half that price)

Its not cheap but never having to shave your legs again and think of all the money will be be spending on razors, hair removal cream etc for the rest of your life.
