For a beauty salon to operate IPL or Laser Hair Removal, they need to be Care Quality Commission registered for Class IV lasers.
You're hardly going to be able to buy something of the 'same power' over the counter.
Even salon treatments aren't 'permanant'. If your body is genetically programmed to have hair, then it will always try to make hair follicles. Even if they get blasted! How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
This is cut out from Telegraph's review on it, I just said it in my own words and it probably sounded wrong... I should have said they claim the same results..
Your guide to the latest health and beauty treaments, with Rebecca Davies
The blurb: TRIA is the first proven laser hair removal system for home use. TRIA is compact, hand-held and rechargeable, and harnesses advanced technology similar to what you would find in a medical professional’s office.

Probably a marketing article.
And this from Tria FAQ site:
The TRIA Laser Hair Removal System is a medical-grade, Class I laser.
I do realise that most people need a top up, but still - 300 charges? Hopefully we will know soon whether you can buy a spare part.
Or we might just go for the Boots one. I can't make up my mind!0 -

Just read the whole of FAQ for the Tria and apparently they are different system then IPL
19. How does the TRIA Laser Hair Removal System compare with other light-based hair removal devices available today?
The TRIA System’s professional-powered laser disables the hair follicle and prevents it from growing back. Clinical testing follow-up showed that participants remained hair-free for over one year after treatment with the TRIA System.
The majority of other at-home hair removal devices work with low-energy pulsed light technology (not laser), which removes hair in the short term, however, during treatment with these devices, the hair is not efficiently disabled and therefore, will grow back.
I don't know... both of them are a lot of money. This one is 3x as expensive as Boots but if it works better it's worth it... But how do you know what is marketing and what is true? Lot of people say that it works and works long term.. but can you trust everything you read?
That is why I asked here, I spent a lot of time here (on MSE) and I know there are many people I have had a debate with in past and they are normal people and not PR company.. Has really noone from MSE tried this?0 -
The tria uses IPL - same as Boots - its the only thing that has been cleared for home use
As such it is not a permanent hair removel system. You will get a reduction in hair growth whilst you use it but you stop using it, it will stop working and of course when you go grey it wont work either
Go for the Boots one if its cheaper and also the boots parts are more readily available and you can at least save points towards the costs0 -
Has anyone ever used epicare hair removal for the face? its like threading without the thread, just a metal coil type thing you move around the face. Its supposed to be quite good and you just do it at home see https://www.facialhairremover.co.uk
Hope its of interest!0 -
Thanks for posting about this Helena4:o
I`ve just checked it out and had a look at the video on how to use it... seems simple enough. I have really dark hair and a few problem areas on my face that make me very self- conscious, so always on the look out for something that wont burn or break me out in spots!
Have ordered one to give it a try and will let you know how I get on.0 -
maybe yu should google it first. I think this is something that I looked at and found a lot of negative comments which, naturally, are not going to feature on their own website.Ellie

Hi Justbe I should of said I have been using it for nearly 2 years and have had much better results than waxing or bleaching.
It can be a bit painful especially the upper lip area but I would rather have that than pullling off skin when waxing.
It is worth trying as its not expensive, I ordered 3 epicare 2 years ago and they say one should last about 9 months but im still using the first! so the other 2 are in my cupboard still.:T
Anyway it worked for me as I cant afford permanent removal of hairs and this method does not leave thick hair re growth.
All the best0 -
Hi,
I've tried this in the past and had no luck with it.
So stick to good old Immac!0 -
i use one of these too and find it brilliant. as helena says the upper lip bit can be a bit painful but that lessens if u use it regularly as there is less hair to pull out basically
also sometimes i find i have to pluck a few hairs that it wont get to but other than that my face has never been so smooth
there was an old thread on here about them last year i think which is what prompted me to buy mine and i have recommended them to various people sinceWhen you know better you do better0
