I've been epilating for about a year now and have saved a fortune on waxing. It really, really hurt at first, so much so I had tears in my eyes. One year on and it's as painfree as shaving.

I agree about hair growing at different rates so you do need to do it over a week or so to catch everything. I tend to just top up as I need it, buildingmy pain resistance a the same time.

Underarms are new for me. I'm trying to deal with it but it just hurts so damn much. i really wnt to get to the stage I am with my legs!

When I used to do it early on I came out with massive red bumps all over my leg but this is only very slight now. mine never came with wipes or anything, just use it on freshly washed, clean, dry legs with nothing on them. I bought the Philips Satinelle Ice, which was about £60 at the time on offer fom boots. I thought I might as well splash out on a good one considering how much I was going to save over the years.

The one I use is great as it's cordless, rechargeable and comes with a shaving head too.

It seemed to work fine under my arms just everywhere else is still hairy!

I think I may have a better understanding of how to do it now, I couldn't understand why my legs felt stubbly but am I right in saying that I should be doing it every day to start with & then just as and when I need to?

The one I have also has a shaving head but I've never used it. Does the epilating tweezers have to be replaced like the shaving head does? (I mean, does it ever wear out?)

Maybe I should have done my research before I bought it!

I started doing my legs about 20 years ago with an epilator and I did find it very painful at the time.
However after a couple of years of using the epilator I found the hair just did'nt come back.
I've never had to do anything to my legs since about 1995,the hair just started to get finer and finer and finally just stopped growing.

I do too- so much cheaper than waxing and if your legs etc are used to waxing then you should adapt to the epilatior very quickly. I don't bother exfoliating and don't get ingrown hairs. Once you have got all the hairs growing at the same time you should be able to go 2 or 3 weeks ( at least I can now).

Underarms I found far more painful but mine came with a "trainer" head which grabs far fewer hairs at a time. After using this a couple of times I can now use the ordinary head quite comfortably.

    Bikini line though? No!

    Ingrowing hairs.

I never had problem with legs or underarms but bikini area.....OMG...sometimes I just gave up and went au naturel.
Being long time married, he doesn't even notice .....which sounds wrong but you know what I mean? ;)

I have just left bikini are to grow back again and am about to attack it with home wax strips but I am putting it off....it's the ingrowing hair thingy. I exfoliate with a scourer type sponge and apply tea tree oil if they bump..but, you know what...I am fed up with it.:o

I have dark thick hair so ingrowns for me are a nightmare - esp at the back of my thighs. To keep them at bay I use the exfoliating gloves in the shower and a dry brush before showering.

And a pair of pointy tweezers a good magnifying mirror and some patience can help :D

I don't really have a problem with the pain side of epilating, just that the hair doesn't seem to be going away!

I think I'm going to have to put a bit more effert into it, I think I may have been expecting too much too soon. I just want legs like the woman on the advert has! haha!!

I've been epilating on and off for about 3 years. My legs get very sparse growth now, and I'm hoping that will start happening with my bikini area. My underarms also seem to be responding. I also run the epilator lightly over my arms. I don't want to remove the hair there completely, but like it being sparse.

I use it all over, and while some areas were painful in the beginning, I found that if you shave the area the day before, and then use the epilator every day subsequently, the pain is manageable and eventually you don't feel it.

It doesn't bother me if hair grows at different rates because I use mine daily or every two days at the least for about 2 - 3 minutes, so I don't have a whole lot to remove.

I do occasionally get a few ingrown hairs on my pubic area, and use tweezers. I will try that boots mitt though.

Have had a look through various epilator threads and wanting some specific advice that I haven't yet found.
I'm about to epilate my legs (ouch, that smarts but I am Ok with it) and possibly my bikini line and underarms. I have tried bikini line once before and it was horrible! Has anyone got any good tips to reduce the pain? I think that a hot bath opens pores so makes hair removal less painful but then does the icepack counteract that? Is it a good idea to use an astringent afterwards and if so, what has anyone found that is good?
Dreading it but would love the longer lasting results than razor and creams.
    Thanks in advance
