silkimiz £1.99 from superdrug. Looks like sandpaper but actually works on "moustach" hair. Rub 4 times one way then four the other ahd hair is gone. Then I just plck chin hair.

I had a bit of hassle with this TBH, maybe I rubbed too hard or for too long, but it was hard to get rid of the hairs. Afterwards I was left with v. red, irritated skin and tiny scabs!

(Edit to say: the silkymiz for legs is ab fab! I love it to bits.)

I've tried professional waxing too - ouch.

Is threading not painful? The least painful method I've tried is hair removal cream, although I leave it on for 7 mins rather than the 5 they recommend.

  • Oh, and also re: electrolysis - it sounds like you've had sterex electrolysis (the one with the needle), which is awful. I've had it once or twice and it always gets me in floods of tears because of how painful it is.

It might be worth investigating something called transdermal electrolysis, where they hold what looks like a pen with a flat end attached to a wire over the part of the skin that needs treating. I used to have that treatment and it didn't hurt at all, I just had a weird metallic taste in my mouth.

Is electrolysis really permanent? I heard that it was, then I heard that you have to keep going back lots of times before it's finally done and it's v. expensive.

    TIA.

  • I think it used to cost me about £15 a time, and granted at the beginning I had to go every week or two because my hair is very dark and when you're 14 or 15 you're massively conscious of what you look like, but by the time I stopped doing it I was only going every four to six weeks. I think the idea is that it weakens the hairs over time so in theory you have to go less and less and eventually hardly need to go at all.

According to the girl who used to do it for me it takes most people about two years to get rid of it completely, though obviously some people it takes more and some it takes less. I suppose really it depends on the person.

    Eeek! Sounds costly!

I have fair hair (but quite a moustache!!!!) so I think I'll stick to the cheaper methods...

I pluck my eye brows and upper lip but use hair removing cream for my chin - I think I can blame genetics for this as both my grandmothers were 'hirsute' ladies  :o

Ive found no different between the expensive creams and Morrisions own brand

    Hello,

Found out recently that you can use clubcard vouchers at sk:n clinics, so I'm considering cashing them in and getting my legs lasered. It's going to be a trainride to one of the London clinics, so I want to be sure if I'm getting the vouchers, it will be worth it!

Couple of questions for anyone who might have been...

    - Will I be expected to to a test patch first? Would it be a good idea to pay for that, then cash in the vouchers before the first proper session?
    - I probably don't have enough vouchers to have more than one session, at least not yet... are they going to put the hard sell on me to sign up to a course? I don't particularly want to pay real money for lasering!
    - Has anyone tried scar treatment there?
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

Yes you will definitely have to have a patch test - I wouldn't use a clinic that didn't insist on that.

You can have a one-off or sign up there was no hard sell, however if you do sign up for a course of 6 there is a maximum time in which you have to have all six.

I had one treatment on my bikini line and underarms and then lost my job so couldn't have any more. Having the one treatment was not effective as I have no bare patches at all and you wouldn't know I had had it. I think it takes 6-10 treatments depending upon your hairyness.
